  1. Thanks bud. Hmmm, Maybe I should buy a Honda CRX (like in my avatar) and work on that, while keeping my Subi intact. Quite an intoxicating idea. imagine that... That little green car in my avatar with Awd from an old Subaru and a classic Subaru Exhaust rumble sound. That little thing is so light (like a tin can) It would be nuts. And since it would be a project car, a turbo would HAVE to be a must. Ultra nuts.
  2. bugger, I was hoping for a no =P jk To be honest, I don't know what I wanna do. actually, I know that I at least want to have enough skill to be able to fix my own car, in the event that I break something. Fixing other peoples cars is a bonus, but working as a mechanic isn't necessarily what I have in mind, unless it's as part of a large company or something, like an oem. ^ that's the most important for me, to just have the skill and for it to be on such a level that I could at least compare to the pros'. oh and, in reality, sometimes life takes you places whether you planned it or not and to skip on an opportunity is kind of a bad thing which id rather avoid doing. Physics? I had that in mind already as something to learn, but there's just so much work.... Gonna have to haul rump roast. Thanks a lot for the help guys, it's really useful.
  3. Hey all, I'm Detronix (not my real name) I REALLY want to be a mechanic. I'm not exactly ready to start learning right away because I don't have the money or my own garage. I have a 99 Impreza (non turbo) But I figure that I should save up some money and then eventually do some schooling. (Possibly in Holland) I was wondering if there are any mechanics here who could recommend for me some things that they consider sort of prerequisite topics that everybody should at least familiarize them selves with before doing mechanic schooling. Is there anything? IE - Will it be an advantage for me to improve my mathematics skills? Will it make being a mechanic easier?
  4. Yea its under the drivers side dash 99 Subaru Impreza 2L non turbo. (GL i think) I did see other posts around the net about 2 green connectors, and horror stories to go along with them lol. Mainly about the horrible feeling people got when things seemed to go haywire when they put the two together, ha. Exactly what I was avoiding I suppose. Anyway, I basically just wanted to get one of those bluetooth obd2 connectors in there all the time so that I could then use it with a smartphone app and make my car look and feel cooler =P (Although, Currently I have my hands on a normal wired obd2 device. not using a smartphone to hook up to the car yet)
  5. Hi there, in an attempt to figure out why my OBD2 device won't connect with my car, I've done some looking around and I have found something (shown in the picture BELLOW) and I was wondering if anyone here could please help me figure out what on Earth these two unplugged cables might be for. I figure that, since the cables are UNPLUGGED, maybe they are that way because they were causing a problem, therefore I figured it's best to ask for advice. (I'm notorious for innocently destroying things) The wire on the female side of the connector is BLACK and BLUE. oh, and it's just a single wire on both sides. The other side is red and blue (if that helps) If you're having trouble finding it in the picture, the connector in question is directly in front of the BIG BLUE connector, right in the middle of the pic. Any help is appreciated!
  6. Thanks for the suggestion, that sounds like a good idea. Or maybe it doesn't.. Isn't it bad to turn the engine when there is no fuel being pumped in? Ill have to check up on that. If they really want my car they'll tow it? =o Good thing it's a plain Subbie ! or is it? actually, I'd prefer a fancy one with a turbo =P
  7. Hi everyone, I have a 1999 Impreza and I would like to fit a secret ignition switch. (a little momentary button that you must have pressed in order to start the car.) Does anyone know of any guides specific to Subaru Imprezas for this? Also, could you please share you opinions on what you think the best low budget security system might consist of / be? To be honest, I feel like a bit of a vegetable right now and I'll probably be feeling that way for the next week or so, but I need to fix my car with some security for when I go travelling. Obviously I don't want people breaking into my car just to steal things (meaning that an alarm would be useful to alert me when I'm nearby) but I also don't fancy coming back from work one day to see that my car is completely gone, so I was thinking that maybe a secret switch could help ward off potential thievery. Any ideas? Also, considering that the mere sight of the wires underneath the steering wheel was enough to frighten me a little bit (and the vegetable thing) Do you think it would be a good idea to get someone to install an alarm for me?
  8. I wasn't expecting anything. I thought that because there was a second radiator and some device (the A.C compressor) linked to the engine, I thought it might have been a supercharger, though I highly doubted it. Silly, but at least now I know.
  9. aha thanks, I was thinking it might have been something else.. I'm kind of relieved and disappointed at the same time.
  10. Hey forum, I was wondering if anyone could help me figure something out It seems my car has two radiators, am I right or am I wrong? And please tell me, is this thing in the photo an alternator? The thing that is highlighted in red. I get the feeling that the device on the left of it is the alternator.
