I don't kow if it leaks during the day as it is my wife's daily driver. But when the car comes home from work and sits in the grarge overnight, there is a puddle of coolant on the floor. I have taken out the overflow bottle and hose that runs between the the radiator cap and overflow bottle, all in good shape, no cracks or leaks. I don't how to check the radiator cap. Should I just get a new one? Do I need to buy a Subaru OEM or would NAPA brand work just fine? Underneath the car, I don't see and coolant drips or anything coming down in-bewteen the front plastic cover behind the belts. I ssume the water pump is behind the plastic cover. What about the heater houses? Are they exposed to look at? I checked the clamps on the upper and lower radiator hoses, ok. Will deploy carboard tonight.

Thanks, what is the WP spout? When you mention the coolant hose, you are referring to the upper and lower radiator hose? I believe 100% Subaru parts. Will put cardboard down.

We have a 97 OBW with 160K on the 2.5L. HG were both changed out about 40K miles ago. This past week I have been having green radiator coolant on the garage floor. After crawing underneath, I could not find the source of the external leak. Yesterday I take it to the Subie dealer about 15 miles from home. They put it up on a lift and pressurize the cooling system at 20psi for 20 minutes and find nothing. This morning, I have a little coolant puddle on the floor again. How can I find out where this coolant is leaking from? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply and help guys. I got the cable attached and the heater box opening to allow hot air in!!! What I can't figure out is where this 1/2 circle c-clip goes on the cable exactly. What do you think?

Hey guys-- It is cold out there and the tempature control cable end (portion down in the passenger side foot well) has come off the heater box in our 97 OBW. The end of the cable has an eye and I have slid it back on a white shaft. How do I make it stay on and make sure the cable is adjusted correctly so we can get heat back inside our daily driver. Thanks a million. D3

Ok-- Wanted to update. Got my gear selector light bulb changed in my 97 OBW. Note, the bulb I used equired a typical side marker light bulb, WAGNER Part # 158. I paid 90 cents at my local NAPA for it. I had to be REAL gentle to get it out its socket using the smallest pick I had in my tool cart. Thanks for the input.

Thank you Manarius and Subikid90 for sharing your insight and knowledge to help me shed light on shift direction for our OBW for night time drives. I can't wait to solve this one.

We have a 97 OBW. I am assuming the gear shifter selector is illuminated at night so one can see if they are in drive, reverse, etc. Are there bulb(s) in the gear shift selector like in the HVAC slider switch? If so, how do you get at them and what is the part number replacement? Thank you for the help

Our 97 Outback with the 304 error were told it turned out to be a burnt exhaust value and loose valve guide. Engine runs good but the check engine light is still on. After getting it home, our check engine scanner showed a P0403 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Circuit Malfunction. When we took it in, it was not blowing this code. What causes this? Vacuum lines and hoses not routed correctly? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I making a big stretch here, I am I going down a good path to problem-solve? If I could bring home an oscilloscope to hook up to the injectors to look at their individual firing, does anyone know what frequency I turn the O-scope to so that I could show the square wave of firing?

Hi Guys-- I am having the same P0304 situation but the CEL blinks from time to time. Not at idle but driving down the road. I don't know if it is an injector or valve issue as already mentioned. Differently know it happens as you know there is a loss of power. Our 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback has a 2.5L motor, auto tranny, and 157K miles that we have owned new from day one and have done all the maintenance on this car ourselves except when the head gaskets needed replaced 3 and 1/2 years ago. I have replaced the spark plugs and wires with all Subaru OEM stuff. I have pulled the spark plugs they look fine and no oil is seeping in around the spark plug boot or wire from the valve cover. I have sprayed water on the coil pack and wires in the dark and have seen no electrical leakage. We have pulled out an automotive stethoscope and have listened to both injectors on the same side of this boxer engine and they sound fine even when the RPM is changed. Vacuum is good and I have found no restrictions. I have even drawn 1/2 a bottle of Sea Foam into the manifold. Got a good smoke out of the tailpipe but did not change anything. How do I track down this intermittent problem, keep the CEL off, and give confidence back to my wife to drive this car? I probably think a I need to swap injectors around, but not sure which other cylinder injector on the motor to swap with. About How much would it cost to to have the valves adjusted? Do the heads need to be pulled to adjust the valves? I am starting to reach the limit of my technical bandwidth. Any additional ideas for suggestions not already mentioned would be appreciated. Yes, no go. I am in the process of contacting United Radio in NY who repairs OEM Subie radio's for dealers.

No fuse on back/inline. Fuse for radio is in fuse block which checks out ok. Power for CD deck comes directly from the radio deck. CD deck is getting power, but the CD drive mechanism itself is not operating.

Thanks guys are the replies. $150, ouch, I did locate where Subie dealers can have radio repaired, www.unitedradio.com in NY. The CD that did not come out was not pre-recorded. The CD player itself now does not have power. Does anyone know where the fuse is located for this player? There is no "pin hole" to put a paper clip in as this model CD player does not use a tray to hold the CD's.

Hello and Good Morning- We have a 97 Subie Outback with factory AM/FM CD player. The CD player will not eject the CD disk itself. How can I get the player to eject the disk? Thank you for your time and cooperation. I look forward to hearing from you guys.
