  1. Havent been able to check it out yet today. Ill grab some pictures tonight or tomorrow. Idk if it makes any difference to the possible issues you mentioned, but when i put it in gear and let out the clutch pedal it won't stall immediatly.
  2. A little background: Had/have a '91 Legacy FWD 5spd with EJ22 that I had done the clutch in about 3k miles ago. She was pretty beat, but ran and drove solid. I picked up a cheap 96 Impreza Outback Sport AWD 5spd with a EJ18 in it and a bad clutch (and from the gobs of oil everywhere, probably a bad rear main seal). I decided to swap my EJ22 with recent clutch into the Impreza. I'll spare you story of my trouble, but as it sits now, the EJ22 is running great in it. However, I cannot seem to adjust the clutch (Cable type) in a way that works. The issue: I am relatively new to the mechanical world, with only a few smaller projects (water pump, and a clutch) and this has been my biggest project. However, what seems to be my issue is that no matter my adjustment of the cable, the throwout bearing is still riding the pressure plate and resulting in the car not moving more than a few inches before it starts slipping hard. I pulled the engine and double checked everything, remembered that I had not installed the repair sleeve from when I did the clutch job on the 91 (still installed on the block I dropped into this 96-- didn't touch any of that). So I moved the repair sleeve over and redid the throwout bearing clips because one was hanging partially off. Reinstalled the engine and had the same slipping issue. As you will see from the videos, I think there is something up with the fork, or the t/o bearing. I do not know. It seems I cannot keep enough tension on the cable to keep the pedal freeplay where it should be, but also not engage the t/o bearing on the pressure plate. The pictures are from this last time I pulled the engine after I adjusted the clips and put the repair sleeve on. This is how it was right before I dropped it back in and hooked everything back up. I've attached a couple short videos and some pictures. If you need any additional information or pictures, just ask. I may pull the engine again tomorrow for further inspection and pictures. Quite frustrated with what should be a simple swap. 3. Almost forgot, little EGR update: Upon closer inspection...neither engine had an EGR valve or pipe, but there is an EGR wiring bracket in the engine bay (pictured above), My only guess is that this is not the first time a swap has been done to this car. I jusr left the vaccum hoses hang and unplugged the electric connector.
  4. Little update: Got the 2.2 swapped in. Couldn't get it to firem then realized I had not swapped out the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors. Decided to just pull the 1.8 intake off and swap the wiring harnesses. Swapped harnesses, had to change PCV sensor and keep the 1.8s throttle body because the TPS on the 1.8 is 3 wire and the 2.2 is 4 wire. Everything fired right up after reinstall. Happy ending? Right? Of course not! The 2.2 I installed had a new clutch put in 3k miles ago, but its slipping now after the motor swap. No clue what could have went wrong. Thanks for all the help guys.
  5. Cool, I guess I will swap the intakes then. Emissions are not tested in the county I live in,and I can live with a CEL. As far as I can tell, neither has a EGR. I used google image search and neither engine has anything like this on the intake However, this did stick out as being different from the intake on my EJ22. No clue what it is, but there are two vaccum lines that run to the intake.
  6. Hey guys, I just picked up a new (to me) 1996 Impreza Outback Sport. It runs pretty rough and the clutch is out. I thought that these cars ran the EJ22, and had planned to swap the one from a 1991 Legacy into it, because that car is toast, and I just put a new clutch in it. Obviously I was wrong, so here I am! I've been looking around and it appears my options are 1) to swap the 2.2 in and use the 1.8 intake 2) swap the complete motor and the ECU/wiring harness from the Legacy in Questions in scenario 1: - Do I have to change the 2.2 injectors into the 1.8 manifold for this to work? - What do I do to the knock sensor, if anything? - Anything else I missed? Questions in scenario 2: - Does it matter that the 96 Impreza is AWD and has ABS but the 91 Legacy is FWD and has no ABS? The plug for the ABS was actually unplugged when I got it. Don't know if there is an issue with the system or what. - In general, how hard is this? Is it just taking all the wiring out and putting it in the other car, or is there splicing? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I've never had to do anything like this. My experience is limited to simply replacing parts on my 91 Legacy to keep it running and driving. New to all this wiring and sensor stuff. Thanks.
