  1. What do I have to do to get my cv axle thru my new bearings?? It wont thread thru all the way. I'm still working on the front passenger side of my 87 subi gl 3door. One road block after another and I'm ALMOST done....except my axle is not the hotdog that can thrown down the wheel bearing hallway.
  2. The friggin axle wont thread thru the bearings. Do I bang on the hub to get it in?
  3. FINALLY DID IT! After two hours of exhausting creativity, sore buns from sitting for so long and mangled hands I got to stand up and toss that wheel bearing. I feel better! Thank you all for your advice!
  4. Does the inner seal need to be pushed in until its flush with the inner bearing?
  5. Replacing the wheel bearings was the plan in the beginning.
  6. ...Then push in and replace pin? That simple? If that's the case, then I just have to rent a puller.
  7. After FINALLY getting my cv axle out of the front passenger hub to replace the bearings, the inner bearing came out with the axle! 'Tis stuck pretty good on there and I need some tips on how I can get it of without ruining a good axle. 87 FWD GL 3door
  8. I was trying to avoid pulling the axle out completely.......crap
  9. When I pulled the axle out of the steering knuckle, the inner wheel bearing came with it. Said wheel bearing has fused with the axle(not literally, I'm sure). Is this a situation to be taken in a fragile manner of prying? Any advice before I become creative??
  10. I got it out finally! Now the inner wheel bearing is stuck on it! Why me?! Ha Well does anyone have the part numbers for the two bearing seals? I want to make sure that wont be another set back. Im working on the front passenger side of a front wheel drive 87 gl 3door.
  11. In the middle of a wheel bearing replacement and the cv axle wont budge from the old wheel bearings. I've tried different ways to hammer it out, but it hasn't moved at all. Frustration has taken over and I could use some advice. Or more advice given my previous post.
  12. cv joint is stuck in the blasted wheel bearings.
  13. ah crap. I used the pickle fork of course. so leaking fluid from the boot.... is that a simple fix? Or did I just bunk up my whole project here?
  14. any tricks other than a crow bar and power of will?
  15. I'm stuck! I almost have everything apart to get to the wheel bearings, but that stupid tie rod.... I cant get it to drop.
  16. Im about to head outside to replace my front passenger wheel bearing FWD. I haven't done one in years and it was on an Isuzu rodeo. Can someone give me a quick rundown on the process before I jack my car up? Much Appreciated!
  17. Are the rear speakers generally the same size as the front? Particularly in the 3 doors? eh eh?
  18. Wish I can find 3 doors in junk yards so easily
  19. Thank you so much! It has been VERY cold lately and my radiator has no fluid loss. I'm glad this was just me being paranoid. lol
  20. When I start my car, I get some white smoke for about the first 5 minutes it runs. I notice moisture from the tail pipe when it smokes. I knew the answer to this one once before. Gasket problem? No overheating. Oil pressure sits under 45 when warmed up.
  21. Heater switch, er HVAC was wonky when I bought my 87 gl. It required constant pressure to work the heater. I used duck tape for a while until it completely failed me. Upon pulling the HVAC line out, some of its "bearings" were loose because parts of it were melted. I pulled one from another car that appeared fine and swapped it. I also replaced the resistor and heater blower motor with brand new ones. AND GUESS WHAT?! It still acts weird, needing pressure or to be pressed just right to work when you let go. Granted all fan settings work now instead of only the 4th one with the original melted pos. Please, someone tell me what I am missing here.
  22. It takes a few times to start the car/keep it running. It normally idles at 1 grand, But when it is trying to stay running(cold start) the volts fluctuate and lights flicker. once the car keeps an idle, the alternator seems to work just fine. Mystery to me but I was wondering if these problems may be connected
  23. There has been a very obnoxious whining/whistling coming from my engine. I've checked all the vacuum lines, the air filter and in the process replaced both of my belts. This sound appears to be coming from one of my belts that gets louder upon acceleration. It sounds like the alternator belt, but I'm obviously lost on this one. Loosening/ tightening were attempted as well, but no dice. I've been ignoring my car sounding like a UFO for a few months now and it hasn't gotten any worse...or less annoying. Would this issue have anything to do with a loss in power when accelerating? (that could be a completely different issue.) 87 gl 3-door 5speed
