  1. OK, sounds familiar to me. It starts well when engine is cold and also when it is warm, but won't start after driving only 2-3 km with cold engine. Waiting for 10-15 minutes it will start again. No related error could be read from the ECU. It cranks well, has ignition on all sparks, there is gasoline-pressure, but all injectors probably don't inject. Have your injectors tested rigth away when that situation occurs. Hope you can reproduce it at a Subaru shop. I had the same problem and it took me almost 2 years to find out the cause. It was a faulty EFI-ECU. After replacing it the problem was fixed. Just be aware it is not that easy to find a secondhand ECU (don't buy a new one, it is far too expensive), it really has to match exactly your engine, so the number on the ECU has to be exactly the same as the one built in in your car. I learned that there were a few legacys 2. gen. (MY94-96) with that problem. Good luck. Inday
  2. By chance I have been at a car electrician yesterday evening when the car didn't like to start again. So the guy examined it carefully and then suspected a faulty EFI-ECU might be the cause (as @Nug correctly mentioned already last year!). The car does not inject gas while cranking. Leave it for another 20 minutes or so and it starts fine again. So my next try will be to find a used EFI-ECU since new ones are very very costly. I will keep you up to date whether it solved my problem or not. Inday
  3. Hi, My Legacy (EJ 22 '95) does exactly the same for the last 70.000 kms. I never found out the cause of it. After driving 5-10 minutes and stop the engine, most of the time it won't start anymore, even I floor the gas. When engine is completely cold or really warm, engine starts perfectly. When it won't start anymore, I just wait for 5-10 minutes, then it starts again, as you said. I already changed many components without success, some sensors (O2, knocking sensor, MAF). It never shows an error code when doing so. It has ignition sparks on all plugs while cranking, plugs get not wet (flooded), it has gasoline pressure but still won't start. Please tell me when you'll find your cause, might be the same with my car. Cheers, Inday
  4. In urban traffic I get up to 32 MPG (around 75 mph) and in rural traffic I get around 26 MPG. It's a 95 Legacy 2.2 Automatic. Just to mention, I am not hitting the gas hard too often.
  5. Haven't you ever thought of importing one from abroad? Here in Switzerland there are many SVX for sale and sometimes with very low mileage on it, and the prices are good, too. Just the other day I saw one for around $ 5'000 (6'800 Swiss Francs) with 40'000 miles on it (65'000 km), in mint condition, so almost like new. Cheers, Inday
  6. Well, if it is an auto, just try this: accelerate a little and keep your left foot at the same time a little bit on the brake. The braking session will stop the spinning on both weels on the right side and brings the torque to the left side that are not spinning/moving. then the car moves out of the snow/ice/mud. Happend to me a lot, too. This "trick" works well! Cheers, Inday
  7. I was told that my Legacy 2.2 4WD Auto '95 submitts 50% of the power equally to the front weels and back weels when in first and second gear, but 90% of power to the front weels and 10% to the back weels when in third and fourth gear. Sounds irritating to me. Is that correct? Cheers, Inday
  8. Does it only do it in cold weather? I have got the same problem but independently by temperature. I posted it here somewhere a fortnight ago. When it happens, I just wait 15 to 20 minutes, then it starts again. I had it at the dealer's and it did not throw a code when it did not want to start anymore. After some testing the car started again and testing could not be proceeded. Really annoying. @Nug mentioned it might be the ECU.
  9. Thanks Josh, the fluid was changed but it was not better afterwards. Perhaps I should use a different fluid? It's the ATF Subraru advices to use. I cannot tell you the specification for the Subaru dealer did the change. Any other ideas?
  10. I got a nasty bucking sensation when the torque converter is locked and then I slow down close to the speed limit where the torque converter will soon unengage (around 60 km/h what is about 35 mph). When I go off the gas and try to accellerate slightly again, there is that nasty bucking sensation. It does neither do it when torque converter is not engaged nor when driving faster speed, it is just doing it between 35-40 mph. Is there something to be worried about? It is very nasty because it is the speed driving very often in heavy traffic. I like to mention also, that it happens just the first time I try to accellerate again, if I reproduce it the second time the bucking sensation has gone. So when accelerate again to faster speed, let it drop down again to the critical speed and then there it is reproducable. The Subaru dealer told me that some cars of that model have that "problem" but he did not consider it as a problem. Another problem is that when I manually switch gear from 4. to 3. then it is jerky, but very smooth from manually switching gear 3. to 2. Upswitching all gears is smooth and no problem. Thanks for your advices. I have got a Legacy 2. Gen. Auto 2.2 make '95.
  11. Thanks for all this information. Yes, I also floored it for about 30 to 40 seconds while engine is turning with starter, but still does not start. That was the first thing my dealer told me to do. When it starts after a few minutes it does not sound as if it was flooded, no strange sounds, no smoke, nothing, it just runs fine again. I like to mention that it was never at the Dealer's while this problem happened (arrived there when engine was warm, so could'nt reproduce it), so I meant there were no errors from the ECU afterwards because the ECU is resetting onces the error does not occur anymore. I really must leave it at the Dealer's once and reproduce it there while it was there over night. Maybe an error is issued when the problem can be reproduced? It is just a pain because the dealer is not just around the corner, it means go there with two cars, leave the Subaru there and pick it up again the next day with two cars again. If you do that very often it sucks. I read somewhere that I can connect two black cables under the dashboard and read out the signal by myself by counting the code - what was it? - lights or sounds. Where exactly can "I" find these two black cables and when I succeed to do so has anybody of you got an idea what that error code means then? Inday
  12. Change the ECU? But why does it not make problems when the engine is completely cold or warmed up?I rather tend to a sensor or a thermic problem in an electronic device or so.
  13. Hi, I got a weird problem with my Legacy 2.2 Automate (2. Gen. make '95) and no Subaru dealer has a clue so far what this might be. When the car was running for a mile or two and I stop, turn off the engine and try to start it again, it will no more start. This symptom occurs only when the machine is neither warm yet nor cold anymore. It has sparks on all 4 plugs, gas pump has pressure, the ignition works fine, still does not start anymore. Have you got any idea what is causing this behaviour? It is pretty annoying when getting stranded at a gasoline station or at a supermarket. Then I wait for 15 or 20 minutes and it starts again without a problem. If the engine is completely cold or it has already warmed up, no problem at all. No errors can be read out from the ECU afterwards. Here something about my car. It is a Subaru Legacy 2. Generation, 2.2 Automate, 120'000 km on it (about 75'000 miles), make '95, regular maintanance. Many thanks for your advices.
