  1. ok thanks for the input everybody, i will try contacting ccr but since they were terrible about answering their e-mails during the ordering and subsequent problems i had when the motor got here i am doubting they will answer this one either

i am also going to use the sube oil filter like suggested, will try giving it a little gas to see if raising the idle makes it go away

    will post the results, thanks

  2. i have a new ccr 2.2 with about 6000 miles on it and have noticed as it has gotten a bit cooler that it ticks really loud for about 10 minutes in the morn until it is warmed up, it is not cold here in az, maybe 50-55 in the morn, i am concerned something is wrong and i might hurt the motor, have been not moving it until it is warmed up good

i am running royal purple 10-30

is this a normal thing for these cars to be loud on start up?

    thanks for any input

  3. ok i understand all this, but my e-mail is up 24/7 and i check it very regularly (like almost every hour), in fact i sent a few e-mails that were never replied to at all about this engine, no one sent me an e-mail and ask to speak to the person putting the motor in, we could very easily have avoided all of this if we had just been asked?? you spoke to my mother who i agree knows nothing about cars but she isn't illiterate (she has a doctorate in education) and could very easily understand a request to speak to the mechanic,

you could have e-mailed us and asked or called and ask to get in touch with the person doing the car, you have written here but i have nothing on my e-mail from you concerning what the warranty is or how you want us to proceed with this???? should we send the motor back or do you feel comfortable having eli change this or what do we do here?

it seems all of this could have been easily avoided with some simple communication

  4. please read the post before this too

ok i think we better all get on the same page before anything is done to the motor, i know i do not know what i am talking about really BUT i ordered a CUSTOM 2.2 MOTOR from ccr, it is supposed to be non interference but ccr also stated to me that they modify all their motors and make them non interference period???

this motor is not the normal 1999 2.2 but the old version made to go into my 1999 legacy car, i was under the impression the old version was better so ask to have this one made this way, it is bottom end old one and top end new one i think??? anyway i do not understand what the problem is and why this is happening, i have written ccr and ask them what we are supposed to do and why the motor was sent this way, we could have looked at the cam gears and told them what they looked like before they built it if someone had asked us to

does this make things clearer? and could it be something else instead of the cam gears?

  5. i am confused, i thought i bought a non interference motor from ccr???? now you are saying it is interference and can be messed up?

and why wasn't this stuff done there or why weren't we at least warned this would be a possible problem and to check it before we put the motor in?

if this is so difficult are you suggesting we pull it back out and ship it back to ccr to get done?

i will e-mail ccr but they were not very good about answering e-mails before i bought the motor

  6. uh oh, there are chips and tuners for the legacys? i have all kinds of chips and tuners on my powerstroke, what all is available for my 99 legacy? all i need is another car to put gadgets on, i am going to go broke:)

i found the smt6 but they do not list price, do you know how much they are?

  7. hmmm,, well i guess i have just always been under that impression, more drag from being higher? the fact that the lower 4wds like the subes seem to get better mileage than the 4wd suvs liek exploeres, isuzus, etc on the road, becuase my tall f350 4wd gets 14mpg:) , i don't really know, it was just an assumption on my part

since i drive about 60,000 a year mileage is important to me

do the imprezas tend to get a little better mileage than the legacys? i had a 91 legacy awd and i got a steady 28-29 in it, of course prob over half of my driving is hwy

the good news is that if it won't affect my mileage i really like the way the height of your cars and will have to do that!!!!! but subrat and i are going to do it in stages over a few weeks, so i will drive it and clock mileage, etc before each change, going to leave the stock tires on and put on the kyb ob struts, will measure and drive a week or 2, then will do springs and measure and drive a week or 2 and then will do bigger tires and measure, etc again

    so it will be interesting

just ordered one of those scangauge things, maybe i can program a trip for each mod and log the results

i cannot wait to get my sube going!!

so now you have to tell me what all is on your subes

  8. ok almost ready to make a decesion, i read all the links and looked at all the pics

    couple more questions

the 97? green sube you sent a pic of with ob springs/kyb struts and slightly oversize tires, that is as low as i want to go, so in otherwords i could live with that but i wouldn't mind being a little taller

if i put the scorpion springs on with the kyb struts with stock 15 tires how much taller than that would i be( approx)?

do you think i am going to lose significant mpg doing that?

this is the situation, i bought a 99 legacy with 106,000 on it, the lady said she just did oem struts not long ago, i will have to go to the dealer to find out the exact mileage on them, i have no idea if she did springs? do you think the dealer would have told her to? if it has the original springs on it will they be worn out at 106,000 or getting close to worn out? if they are going to need doing soon seems i should just go ahead and do the scorpions

also how much harder is it to do the springs in addition to the struts and should i definitely do it together or could i just try the struts and add springs later?

also this car has almost new tires on it, so i am replacing a lot of parts that were just replaced:( , but i have to have more clearance to drive it or i am going to mess it up

so right now i am leaning toward doing kyb struts/scorpion springs and staying with these tires for the next 6 months or until i wear them out

but i would like to hear from some of you that have done just the strut swap and not the lift springs with it, after reading this thread what do you guys think? and maybe comparing it to that green sube how high are you guys

i really appreciate everyones time in helping me figure this out:burnout:

  9. no he did not say where i coudl get the kit, i am curious too, i will ask

ok zapar so you think i should do both the struts and springs, i am just needing to get some clearance for dirt roads and washes , i am not doing rally stuff or anything, i do have to go thru some mud different times of the year

my thought was to do the struts and then the ozified people said they have a lift coming out soon for my car but they said it is designed to be put on with the ob struts, he did not say springs just struts but i am going to clarify that with him

so i was going to try just struts and then add the lift if i need it

can someone explain to me if there is any difference in how the car is lifted using struts vs a lift, will the entire car including frame/trans/rear end get higher with a lift vs just the body being higher with a strut?

thanks for all your help everyone

  10. ok talked to the tire rack and he insist the struts are not going to raise my legacy , that it is the springs that lift it, he says i need a lift kit

so can the people who have done this fill me in, not sure what to do now

the guy was a jerk and either way i will spend my money somewhere else but he went on and on about how it will not lift it and he would not take them back, etc

  11. ok just talked to tire rack and now they are telling me they only show one ob strut, so i hopefully got that straightened out BUT this guy at the tire rack swears that just doing the struts will not lift my sube, that i need a lift kit and he says i can order them but he will not take them back

he says it is the springs that lift it not the struts????????????

so the people that have done this mod please talk to me, i thought everyone said you only need the struts?

    thanks for your time

  12. hey soloracer

thanks for all that good info

you are prob right the struts and tires will be enough and i don't want to get into doing things to axles, etc

we have lots of washes here and it is lots of steep ups and down, becuase of that i was worried about getting that spoiler thing busted in the front

thanks for those numbers on the tires, will get some bigger ones, i already have the 15 in tires, do you think that the stock ob size will be as tall as i can go or can you get any bigger, think everybody says 27in but i am not sure how to measure like that, the tire place prob will

    thanks again for the help

  13. this car is originally a 2.2 and that is what i have in it now but it is ticking badly

talked to ccr and they said they can custom build me an engine that is half pre 97 2.2 and half what i have now, not sure exactly what that means but they know how ot do it, the half and half is my words not thiers:) he described it differently, heads off one block off another

anyway he said they retrofit all their engines so that they are non intereference, so i am not sure i will really gain anything by having them do the custom, i wrote back and asked what they recommend i do and am waiting for a reply
