  1. That's what I'm not sure of sc850r. It is looking like a DECREASE in mpg right now. and that is NOT what I am after.
  2. Hey all, Back again with more questions. Last week, we installed a new K&N air filter in our 95 Legacy LS and had hoped for more mpg. We DID get the horsepower boost but seems we are going through gas faster than we did with paper filter. Is this possible? I'm still driving it the same way. Used to get about 300 km out of a tank of gas, got about 200 last tank. Thanks to all who might/will answer. Gord
  3. Okay, so the manual says I need the Scantool to read the code and I don't have the money to buy one. Does anyone know how much it might cost in Cdn $$ to find out just what the problem is? I've removed the battery posts in the hope that the light would go away but alas, it didn't. Any ideas? Thanks to those-who-know!
  4. Oh man Gary! I sure hope it stays in the oil pan, as I said to Andy. We NEED it to stay put until we get home! Thanks for the info tho'. I'll keep my eyes on things.
  5. I will Andy. I just hope it stays in the oilpan long enough for us to start and finish our holidays.... We've got more than 2000 miles to drive in about 10 days. Not much when you say it fast! hahahah How can you tell we live in Canada, eh?
  6. Hey Andy, Thanks for your Aussie 2 cents worth! I'll add the items to the list of possibilities. Go__bryth
  7. Okay, now I'm somewhat educated about the plastic vs metal oil separator cover leaks. My wife and I have a '95 Legacy LS Wagon with the 2.2L engine. We've had "a" leak since we bought the car (with 141K). Everything pointed to the oil pan "gasket" ...which it turns out wasn't there... so we had an aftermarket FELPRO cork gasket installed. But, alas, the leak is still there. I've had a mirror up behind the oil pan and it would appear that the leak is coming from above where the oil pan meets the engine. Does this actually indicate the separator plate is the culprit? Or is it something else? Also, how long can I drive it like this monitoring the leak and adding oil when it gets low? Thanks to all who might give us their 2 cents (US or Cdn) worth!
  8. Hey Michael... thanks for the info too. I'll keep it under consideration. Gord
  9. Thanks for the info GG.... it is greatly appreciated. Air filter is in... the others will be soon! Gord
  10. Thanks for the optimism RWeddy! I have my fingers crossed! hahahah I figure I'll probably go with a Quaker State product. Love that QS. hahahh Gord
  11. Thanks for the info Wae. I'll certainly take it under consideration. I've changed the air filter and will be doing the oil and oil filter next. And I'll be going to get as many of the other things as I can afford in the next few paydays. Gord
  12. Greetings from fog bound Saskatchewan! We've had our '95 Legacy LS wagon for less than a month and am finding the mpg less than stellar. It's got 142,000 km on it and I want to know what I have to add/change to give us many more years and a few more miles per gallon. My big-block-motor-head brother-in-law is suggesting synth blend oil (more POWER and less wear) and a K&N air filter (better air flow). I've replaced the baldy no-namers with B.F. Goodrich 195-60 Radial T/A's for greater gription & road performance. I'd like to know from the TRUE experts what I can/should do to enhance all aspects of the car's performance. Thanks, in advance, to all who offer their advice. It is, as always, greatly appreciated......Gord
  13. Hey Sam, thanks for the info. Thanks also to Sea#3, and Nug. We greatly appreciate what was offered. It is great to know that you all know this car much better than I do. I'm sure we will be back for more advice and to tap your expertise in the months and years to come!
  14. No we do not have any maintenance records but a sticker under the hood indicates the timing belt was changed at 92,000 kms so not concerned about that. Just worried about this sudden oil leak. It seems like a great car so would like to solve this quickly and cheaply.
  15. What kinds of quirks are we talking about here Sea#3? We've had the car 2 weeks. So we're green here. Also, is there a Canadian supplier for the FSM?
  16. Maaaaan. I was hoping it was something "I" could do! Can a regular garage do this or does it need to be a Subaru dealership?
  17. Hey Sea#3, thanks for the info. Now comes the hard part..... how many hours labour and how many $$ Cdn to fix it?
  18. Hello to all from the Great White (and fast frozen) North! My wife and I recently bought a '95 Legacy Wagon wi/ 140,000 kms. Today, I noticed an oil leak wi/ drops forming between the exhaust pipes. Also drops on bracket holding exhaust "Y" and bottom of oil pan by plug. Does anyone know the cause? Was told it could be engine seal or gasket. Don't have manual but am also looking for one. Thanks, in advance, to all who can help!
