  1. hey ya'll...i have a '86 soobie GL wagon, 5 spd. and i live in deep south texas where it's always warm pretty much all year long. i have no use for the thermostat (so i was told)the a/c comp. didnt work so i took it out along with the hoses and that radiator core, and all other related stuff. dont have a heater as well, my soobie has been running pretty good, the temp seems to always stay in the low 1/4 - 1/2 range, never really heated up at all. now in the summertime it does get pretty hot down here. and i just basically use the soobie for daily commuting to and from work and other errands. i was wondering can i remove the heater core? why? i really dont know...my radiator is somewhat dirty. i do have antifreeze in it, i did a flush, i know one of fans is working...what about the other fan, whats it for? and can i rig it up to also have a switch to turn it on and blow more air? i dunno u guys tell me what u think. thanks baggyshorts
  2. i dont seem to get it...i have an '86 soobie GL wagon that has an a/c compressor that doesnt work, besides i dont need it. so i would like to remove it, along with the belt and just use the alternator belt. i know that there is a bracket that holds the compressor, and it also seems to join the alternator. if i remove the compressor...will i need a "different" bracket to hold the alternator? oh, i almost forgot! does anybody have a soobie that has that square dull clock on the dash by the windshield and doesnt work? can it be fived? if not what has anyone done to it, such as take it out, replace it with something else???? and last but not least...does that seafoam stuff really work? do u trust it, what are it's pros and cons??? thanks guys. baggyshorts
  3. just curious...is this stuff really that good? has anyone ever tried it in their soobies?? what are some of the pros and cons??? baggyshorts
  4. i have a '86 soobie GL wagon ( i love it ) i'm trying to modify it into an offroader. ( in time ) first some questions: i've read on some posts on something about adding a hose or a sort of breather for the tranny or differential, how do u do that and whats the purpose?? does it make a difference whether or not the car has all it's air, pvc, filters? if i get a regular size 13" tire for a spare (for now) how the heck do u fit it in the engine compartment? are ngk spark plugs really good? what bout the oil filter? can i remove the a/c compressor along with that belt and still use the car with the other belt alone? one last thing for now... does anyone have pics of their projects or finished mods??? i added a fire extinguisher and fog lites and other goodies. any other ideas aside from the lift??? thanks guys, alot of help. baggyshorts
  5. the alternator is closer to the battery, (on the drivers side of the engine).i thought that u would end up using the same bracket? thanks for all ur help. baggyshorts
  6. is it possible to remove the ac compressor, and the belt that goes with it and still leave the other belt for the fan? it seems like i could but what about the "bracket" that holds the compressor and the alternator? the ac doesnt work nor does the compressor so i removed all the hoses and other related stuff... on a '86 soobie GL wagon. thank baggyshorts
  7. i have an '86 soobie GL wagon, wire harness still there, just no radio. but what if there is no radio in any of the old junkyard soobies, can i put in a radio from a... lets say a chevy s10 pick up? thanks
  8. my soobie has no radio and i miss the jams. i was wondering if it was possible to install any old radio into it? i know i could go out and buy a new system, but i'd rather use that $$$ towards tires, or something. thanks baggyshorts
  9. the cut off switch ideas were alot of help, i'm definately going to try it out this weekend. soobies arent a big theft problem, but it is mine. baggyshorts
  10. how do i go about installing a "kill switch" on my '86 soobie GL wagon 4 cyl.? i want the switch to not allow the car to start when i park it. is that a good thing? i know it may be an easy thing to do, but when it comes to electrical stuff, i tend to shy away from fear of short circuiting something! thanks guys baggyshorts!
  11. thanks for making me feel welcome here. i can see that alot of u guys have alot of wisdom in ur subaroos. has anyone decided to gut out their interior like taking out the carpeting and just leaving the plain metal floor, in case u go off roading or go thru a stream and water gets in? let me know and if u have pics that would be great as well. also if my air conditioning isnt worth crap and i want to get rid of the compressor totally, can i do so without it affecting the alternator or fan/pulleys? this is on a '86 subie GL wagon. thanks again. baggyshorts
  12. how's everyone? i'm new to this site, but not so new to the wonderful "soobie" world. i am proud to say that i've owned 2 soobies and am very much in love with my '86 sub GL wagon, 5 spd. (maroon). this is such a cool and very informative site. alot of useful info. passes thru here. i get the impression that alot of the members here are from the north/northeast area. does anyone know if there are members in the deep south texas area? just curious! as time goes by and now that u all have inspired me in some way, shape, or form to give my soobie a makeover. i'm gonna go the baja route. i know that i'll be coming to u all for advise and ideas. thanks for making me feel welcomed. one quick question...has any of u ever gutted out (taken out the carpeting) the interior of ur soobies, and maybe just gone without it? once again thanks dudes, baggyshorts
