  1. howdy. well, i'm trying to help my sister replace the driver side mirror on her 07 Outback. However, i can only fine a replacement made by Kool Vue, but it says its for 2000-04 models. I can't seem to locate any made for Outbacks after the 04 model. Any ideas of places online i might be able to find the mirror for the 07, or are they the same as the earlier models?

    Thanks...

  2. 88 GL (Junior, for those that remember) FWD Sedan, 3AT, 212k+ miles...

Turn the key to "ON" without starting the engine and it sounds as if something is trying to run underneath the car. Louder on the driver's side, but I can't pinpoint the location. My guess is fuel pump, but since it is a new noise, I'm not really sure. I really need this car to last 6-8 months (when I can, without pause, replace the beast), and I really hope it is either nothing too major or a quick and simple fix. I'd listen for the sound while the car is running, but the exhaust leak doesn't let me hear much. I'm just probing for ideas as to what it could be or how to narrow it down.

There's the click of a relay firing, then the electric whirring of something, then the click from the relay again shutting down after about 2-3 seconds.

Won't be able to T/S tonight, wife borrowed the car while her Legacy's in the shop (and until she can drive the WRX).

P.S. It seems that with the addition of the WRX to our family, we are, indeed, a Subaru only household.

my loyale's done this forever. don't think you have anything to worry about.

  3. well, not really...

so, my 92 Loyale has been acting up lately.

It all started about 2 weeks ago when i would feel a slight hesitation while driving. then it progressed into where it would sputter and almost stall when starting from a complete stop.

ex. car in 1st, let out clutch, give it gas, but nothing but a slight sputter..press clutch down, feather the gas pedal, and suddenly the engine roars to life.

now, it is having a hard time even starting at all, unless i feather the gas pedal while turning the key. if i press the gas a few times while turning the key, it will start maybe 50% of the time. it won't start at all by just turning the key.

pulled the plugs, all fine and have about 12,000 miles on them. wires have about 25,000 miles on them, as does the cap and rotor.

fuel pump cycles on when i turn the key, so it's working.

i'm leaning towards a failing coil as if i mess with the wire going from coil to rotor, i can get it to start, but again, need to give it gas to get it to start.

also, this "sputtering, stalling, missing" condition only appears to be happening at low rpms(under 2000) or from a stop. haven't had it out on the highway to check out performance, but it seems to have enough power to climb hills around here without a problem.

    i don't know..anybody care to chime in??

    thanks in advance folks...

  4. Ben's right. Look for a Legacy if you can find one. A Loyale is just a stripped down version of a GL. Only 2 speakers in front, no adjustable lumbar support, some other little stuff that makes them less desireable than the GLs. The 3ATs can be okay, if you like the sound of 3,000rpms at 55mph. They're perfectly reliable if you mantain them properly and if you're not too rough on it. You could always swap a D/R 5spd in there (if you have the time to do so). Just drive it and listen for CVs clicking, any abnormal engine noises (other than lifters ticking which they often do), brake feel, any bearing noises, stuff like that. Don't go over $800. It's just a Loyale.

er...loyale's are fine rigs, just not with the auto tranny. oh, and they do in fact have the adjustable lumbar support (if that really matters).

  5. Well i was loadin up the kiddies in the parking lot which hasnt been completely plowed was sitting in some snow bout 9 inches. When i go to leave i get hung up in snow ruts. I was mad i thought these cars were gonna be tough so i push the 4wd in. Nada it doesnt engege wonderful japanease engineereing so im sittin here going this sucks subarus dont get stuck what a crock. But then i was like its a subaru try again. I was able to rock it back and forth and i got out eventually but man it wasnt that much snow and the tires are almost brand new. I assume if my 4wd button was working things would of gone different but was not my best getting stuck moment but then again it wasnt my worst. Is there something i can replace that push button with like a hand activated leaver.

    Ben

the "wonderful japanese engineering" you are so wrongly ripping on has always gotten me through more snow than i probably should have been driving in. Sorry you seem to have so many problems with your ride.

  6. well, i took a piece of wood and gorillaglued it to the plastic next to the ebrake. then i took one of those clip on to the door between window and door cupholders and cut off the part that holds it on to the door, leaving just the part that holds the cup. then i just placed it on the wood that i glued on, and drilled a screw through the bottom of the plastic cupholder into the wood. works perfect.

  7. 92 Loyale 4wd EA82 5 speed wagon. Minus 20 C (about 2 below for you Luddites) this morning. IAC decides to take the day off, cranking speed is sluggish, block heater doesn't have a plug on it, it starts but I gotta feather the gas for 5 minutes or so before I get a steady 1200 RPM fast idle, by now the w/shield is frosty inside, still haven't gotten the cooling system to where there's any heat on a cool day, let alone this morning, can't use the left rear door cause the weatherstripping has torn out of the door bottom from being frozen to the body, not a chance I'll lock any door or t/gate until spring, tires were square, rear brakes groaned and struts were solid as I pulled out of the drive, forget shifting for another 2 blocks, clock only works after 1 hour of fullbore heater, and I don't even live in a really cold place like Missoula, but I love my Subaru!!

heh.. sounds like fun.... actually, missoula doesnt usually get this cold. we have a couple bouts of arctic air fun every winter, but it's normally pretty mild. nothing like my days of living back in the upper peninsula of michigan. now that was winter.

  8. Well, it was a balmy -14f this morning when going to work. My Loyale had all of it's cold weather quirks on display. Let's see. Gas pedal sticks to the floor, clutch sticks, fuel pump becomes very loud, tailgate latch malfunction, speedo cable makes the loud whirring noise for 20 sec. . I was just talking with one of my co-workers who also has a 92 loyale, and we were comparing these cold weather quirks. So, anybody else have rigs with these cold weather oddities?

  9. Locals don't carry boxes on there ru's those are tourists.I live here all year around for the last 8 years and I have never seen a local with a box on their ru.we are not country folk as you say. your realy one to talk by the way(not that I don't like that area). And so what if we have brand new ru's and yachts.Don't be jelous. Most locals I know are very nice and were very nice to me even before I had money. If you have an attitude to us thats what you get back. You shouldent insult other subie fans by the way.I have been here for 3 years. That kind of thing is uncalled for.

    -Kodi

well, locals out here in montana have the cargo boxes. work great for those long trips to the montains, keeping the road grime off freshly tuned boards/skis.

  10. I've got a 93 Legacy wagon with 180K on it, the clutch is going, the main switch is gone, the seat belt is busted. Of course, the engine seems strong.. :) I'm thinking instead of putting any more $$ into it, I should just get a cheap 2.2 soob with everything working. I've found a 95 OBW with 250K on it, but everything else is in good shape. The guys is asking $2200. I figure it's going to cost me nearly that to fix my car.

The 2.2 seems pretty reliable, but how many miles do you think they can carry before they're toast?

    Thanks for the input.

i would put the $$ into your current ride. why buy something with 250k on the clock when yours only has 180k?
