Will be parting out if no one is intersted in whole car. Make me a offer. I just picked up a 99 Forester to use. The car is at my wifes parents in Fall River Mass. Thanks.

  2. Sounds good. The clutchs would most likely be the same right. I had replaced ours maybe 20K back or so, but will inspect upon opening and may just replace. Damon
  3. The cars in Fall River below boston. Which will could easly pickup, but have so many things going on it hasn't been a priority. I would be interest in your motor. What does iyours need., etc and how much? I have new timing parts, etc. for ours. thanks. Damon
  4. Bent valves in the 2.2. Parked in different state. Broke down in Mass. parked at my wifes parent home(1.5 hours away). Been siting for a few months now. Starting to getting rusty around fenders. Has 200K. Needs shocks. My wife still likes it. I have been considering rebuilding motor or getting replacement. Not sure exacly which years 2.2 will work. Damon
  5. Good day all. It is a sad winter. we have no subaru's on the road! Just spun around today on snow with our Audi A4 Quattro... Have a question for the board. Has anyone used 1997 Impreza outback fenders/bumber and hood on a 1999 subaru legacy as a replacement? Our 1997 is dead, but has good fenders, bumper and hood. Someone has a good 1999 Subaru legacy with front end damage on fenders, hood and bumper and wanted to swap. Thanks. Damon
  6. Boy! Sounds like the same thing.... I took my transmission out and check everything and everything looked ok and put it back in hoping it was just the final alignmnet 1/4 inch like other people in the forum said. But nothing.. so there it sits and continues to..... Any luck with yours...
  7. Just a quick update to close the tread. Two weeks ago I replaced the timing belt, replaced the crank shaft seal, both cam seals, and the o-ring in the oil pump. She now runs great without any oil leaks, now I just check the oil without having to use any after 1000k! Thanks for everyones help and resources on the web site. Damon
  8. I may consider that. It was a subaru belt. Can Timing belts last 200K? I know my other 1990 legacy timing belt has 105K on it since it was last changed with a subaru belt. Has anyone had experince with NAPA, etc belts lasting over 100K or up to 200K? Thanks, Damon
  9. Thanks for the info. Thats what I was thinking also. I will review past threads on oil seals, etc. I havn't replaced the timing belt myself on this one, so I was just waiting for it to go! The car has 198K, so all seals up front are in need of replacement as they were leaking some. The timing belt looked like it had been in there for a real long time! I know there is different schools of thought on Timing belt brands(i.e. Subaru and aftermarket), but I am thinking of just using a aftermarket. Any reason not to on this car? Thanks Damon
  10. Update! To check the engine, I turned the crankshafy pulley and the camshaft pulleys didn't move. When I had first looked at the engine, I checked the timing belt by pushing on it by opening both outer timing belt covers and the belt was tight on both sides...so i figured the timing belt was ok. But when I rotated the camshaft pulley the timing belt came right out. The belt had a 4-5 inch section that the teeth were gone and it was snapped right there also. I am thinking that the timing belt had a few chewed teeth and kept going, until it ended up at the crankshaft gear and couldn't spin. Anyone have any thoughts? What should I check to make sure the engine is ok, before installing some oil seals and a new timing belt? Thanks for you help.
  11. I have a 1993 Subaru Legacy MT AWD, with 198K. I haven't had any problems with it, until last week... I was driving at about 40 mph and the engine started cutting out, I was able to pump the gas a couple of times to keep it going, but it died. Timing belts are ok, RMP didn't cut out like it does when the timing belts snap(Yes I have let a few non interference(sp?)engines do this). No dash lights or engine lights flashed. I have not been able to start since. I was thinking it was a fuel problem, but I checked the fuel pump at the outlet of the fuel filter and it seem fast and high pressure. Must be electrical right? I haven't had any intermittent electrical problems and it's always starts right up and runs no hesitation, etc. We have had rain for the last week straight, so I havn't really looked at it. But any help would be great. Damon 1997 Subaru Outback Sport 150K 1990 Subaru Legacy MT 275K 1993 Subaru Legacy MT AWD 198K other retro subarus...
  12. Thanks for the info. Sounds like GC of GF struts should work as long as I reuse my springs. GC and GF would be from 1997 to bug eye WRX (2002?) and not GD. When does GD switch? Takeing out the back seat will sure beat the old day's under 1980-1984 shearing off the top shock mounts! 1997 Subaru Impreza Outback EJ22 (140 K) 1993 Subaru Legacy MT 4x4 (194 K) 1990 Subaru Legacy MT FWD (270 K) and many other retro 80's models....
  13. Thanks for the info. I am not sure what GD, GC and BC stand for, but I assume they are strut codes? It sounds like I should do some more research. I just got finished replacing the clutch in this impreza and I have the front seal to do also. So struts are a ways off. maybe during warmer weather. Thanks for you help.
  14. I have seen a couple of people ask about compatablity of WRX struts(02-03 range). I have also seen quite a few listed on e-mail some cheaper that others. Some with springs, some without. All without top mounts. I want to replace the struts on my Wife's 1997 Subaru Impreza Outback EJ-22. It has 140,000 on the original struts. Can WRX struts be fit to the 1997 Impreza? Are the top mounts the same? Also can any of these fit my other legacy's 1990-1994? Thanks. Damon
  15. Thanks for responding, I needed to hear from someone. My brother knows a Subaru mechanic and he going to ask him his what he thinks! But seems real weard. I may have to anti up and bring it to him. In all my years of subaru's (15+ subarus, 14 or so years of having at least 1 subaru, more often 2-3) I have never brought any of my cars to a mechanic for anything! So I was hoping to keep that going......
  16. I have a 1990 Subaru Legacy LS which I replaced the auto transmission with a Type B - 1993 auto transmission and changed over the rear end to match the transmission gear ratio. I installed the transmission myself and put everything back together. I started the car up everthing worked fine, I took the car up and down the road(1/2 mile up and back) the tranmission shift perfect through all gears no noise or anything. I got back home sut car off, let it set for a 10 min or so, checked for leaks, etc. - didn't see any. Started the car back up let it idle for about 5-10 min while I check for leaks, etc. Then all of sudden there was a pop like a back fire(but not) and the car shut down completely. The car was hard to turn over, I tried a couple of times then it started ran fine, except the transmission did nothing. I looked, for leaks didn't see any. Is the pump or torx coverter blown? What would cause it to stop like it did? Help, real frustrated....
