  1. Hi all, 2013 Impreza with 154k. Car drives fine, gets about 29 mph on average. However, it occasionally has a problem on hot days (or it seems like it's hot days), where the car starts and then dies immediately after. Feels like it's not getting gas. In fact, if I immediately tap the accelerator, it doesn't have a problem. I cleaned the air flow sensor, changed air filters, and even sprayed out that secondary filter that is right after the engine air filter (seemed fine, just wanted to cover my bases. Checked clamps on air supply for tightness...all fine. I'm going to change the fuel pump relay. Engine isn't throwing any codes. Any other things to check before I resort to the fuel pump or the coils?
  2. UPDATE: It's the valve body and two solenoids. Genuine subaru part clocks in at $800. Parts and labor clock in at $500. FML. I better get another 50k out of this thing. Honestly, between the recalls and other fixes, I think I'm giving up on subies.
  3. Yeah...I don't have a code reader and all the auto repair stores aren't doing it now because of stupid COVID...but thanks. I'll suggest it to the mechanic.
  4. Hi all, Out of nowhere, on my 2013 Subaru Impreza, my AT Oil Temp light went on (blinking yellow), Check Engine Temp went on (solid), hill stability went on (solid), traction control went on (solid), and cruise control went on (blinking). The car drives perfectly fine. No trouble transitioning gears when speeding up, no idling problems, nothing. I'm going to take it to the dealer tomorrow, but I thought I would throw it out to the forum to see if there might be something simple to check. I am waiting for the car to cool down to check the trans fluid level, but I don't think that's it. Specs on car: 153,000 k miles with original CVT, change oil regularly every 6 k (synthetic, so probably overkill, but I know the value of good oil), had half the engine replaced on warranty last year, most mileage is highway (I have a 60 mile commute to work, all highway). Thanks!
  5. Ok. Thanks for the explanation. Guess I will just keep using it until it goes.
  6. GeneralDisorder - you sound pretty confident about that. Are you sure? Is it worth having someone drain it and refill it?
  7. Hi all, So I replaced my AC compressor clutch and coil about four months ago. The AC works great and blasts cold air. However, ever since I did the maintenance, I've been getting a grinding sound coming from the pulley whenever the AC is on. You can view a video of it Any clue what this is? I took it apart and put it back together again...made sure all of the clips were in the right place. The gap is correct and there is no sound when the AC is not engaged (see the video). Thanks all!
  8. I did use a gauge to check the freon level and I did recheck (twice). How do you add oil to it?
  9. It sounds a lot like this: , only when the clutch is engaged. As for the fan...where is the fan? I know where the blower, but not sure what you're talking about. In any case, the sounds definitely seems to be coming from the ac compressor assembly.
  10. I should also mention that I changed the bearings along with the clutch / coil unit.
  11. So now I've got a new problem with the AC, probably related to this AC clutch...I really ran the AC for the first time a few days ago after doing a clutch and coil replacement. The low side pressure was a bit low, so I topped it off using an off-the-shelf recharge can. It's engaging and blowing glorious cold air. However, it's also making a fairly loud grinding sound whenever the clutch is engaged. It's audible enough that I hear it from under the hood when I stop the car. It wasn't doing this when I first changed the clutch and coil, and it ran fine for at least a couple of hours. I only noticed it after about ~4 hours of run time. Like I said...it's running fine. But my intuition tells me that this sounds is indicating some pending trouble. Any clue what it is? It's not a metal grinding sound. More like a card shuffling sound.
  12. oh well. Thanks all. By the way, I just eyeballed the gap with a playing card. Does anyone know what the actual gap should be? One card or two? ;-)
  13. Fixed! Clutch coil was bad. Put the new one on, spaced the thing correctly, and it works like a charm. What the heck makes a clutch coil go bad? Isn't it just a magnet???
