  1. That was it! thanks. the hose going to the idle control was disconnected. thanks again my day just got alot better.
  2. I just recently replaced fuel injector #1 in my 97 obw, hoping to cure a misfire. After driving it I realized the air filter cover was not properly in place. So I fixed that and now the car dies after starting. I need some help here, please?
  3. If you replaced your coil pack as well, what does that leave? Injectors? How does the ecm detect the misfire? Maybe we have a problem there. I really don't know what to do next. I guess the good news is the engine runs well and it's more annoying than anything. Let me know if you figure it out. thanks
  4. I've got a 97 obw with 148k that throws a cylinder 1 misfire code every couple of weeks or so. Initially I replaced the plugs and wires and put some injector cleaner in the tank and it went away. Two weeks later it comes back and I had autozone delete it. But, it keeps coming back and I just have it deleted again. No rhyme or reason. I don't feel any laspe in performance when I get the light, it seems totally random. Would a bad coil cause a misfire so randomly? Do I have a bad injector? What's the next step? Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks
  5. My appt. at the dealer is tommorow so I don't know what the problem is. I do know that they want $92 just to do the diagnostics. I image the bill will escalate from there. I am considering cancelling but I want to fix what ever is wrong, I just don't want to pay dealer prices.
  6. The dealer wants $92 to check out my airbag light that is always on. Are there any other options, who reads these codes besides the dealer?
  7. the same exact thing happened to me when I bought my 97 outback. The first time I drove it the thing overheated. The dealer changed the thermostat, I picked it up drove it home and overheated again. Turned out to be the head gasket. Luckily the dealer honored his warranty and covered the $1000! bill. What's the story with your warranty? Good luck...hope it's not the gasket.
  8. Thanks for the feedback everyone, it's much appreciated! Hopefully spring is around the corner.
  9. 50 below...Damn! I'm in Chicago, it has rarely been in the single digits this winter. But it's better to warm up the engine with the block heater than to start it cold, right? Even if it is above 0. Thanks for the timer idea, genius.
  10. Hey thanks! any idea how long it takes to warm up or do you leave plugged in overnight?
  11. I recently bought a 97 outback. It has a block heater, but I have no idea how to use it. Can someone help me because I'm a moron. thanks
  12. Thanks for the lead Gnuman. Looks like this is a common problem. I guess I will start by checking the tire circumfrance and then change the fluid in the tranny and differential. After that we'll see, maybe clutch pack (hope not). Thanks again.
  13. Howdy, I just bought a 1997 outback with 147,000 mi. I love it and it seems very solid. However, when I make left or right turn from a stop I get a rough vibration coming from the back wheels. If I am turning left, the back right wheel seems to be more the culprit and vise versa. I have never driven an AWD car before, so I have no ideas what this is. Any ideas? PS. I love this site. I never knew about the Subaru community.
