  1. Okay so I have quite a few spare ea71s for my 78 sema brat project and someone used the oil pan as a jack point and then only changed the oil pan and if that wasn’t bad enough the oil pick up tube got bent and someone tried to pry it out with a screwdriver and I tried to gently get it out and it’s starting to tear at the insert point it’s about halfway out but I’m afraid it might be beyond saving so my questions are

do I separate the tube from the insert then try to pull the insert out separately and tig weld it back together later?

and does anyone have a spare?

thanks for the help in advance

  2. I actually have a lot of experience with a rotary and a buddy of mine just got a brat with a 13b rotary mounted and is working on the transadaptor but might change the transmission and rotarys are not terrible  engines but you need to drive them or they go bad similar to a Porsche anyways best of luck to the project but I’m afraid my friend is one step ahead of you

just let me know when you blow the diff and transmission apart, i'll be interested to buy a few parts from you when you part it out, keep me in mind!

Well I got a spare transmission and what if I where to strengthen the diff’s gears and make nice on all the seals do you think it would last any longer or should I play it safe

  4. If I take the front axles out of my brat (properly I won’t just pull them I know they hold the hubs in place) and if I put it in 4wd drive then would I have a rwd brat and would I be able to do donuts but more importantly would it be safe I’m trying to get this brat(1978) to sema 2019 all help would be appreciated

if that wont work has anyone mates a rwd drive trani to a ea81(that’s whats going into it the ea71 is getting sold)

  5. Hey guys I had a few questions for the brat I’m having custom axles made and getting some classic jam rims but before I get the same size all around I was wondering what the limitations are for the brat (78-81) 4wd was

my main question is why is it limited to 50mph because I was told depending one what the limitations where I could have a shop do some changes and get it to where it’s basically awd

if not I still need to know because my boss(he does Porsche’s which are very different but he knows his motorsports and performance things) said if I wanted a rwd brat I could disconnect the front axles and leave it in rwd

I plan on having this at sema in 2019 and have everything lined up thanks for the help in advance

  6. Hey guys I’m looking of putting a better transaxle in my brat I have a ea81 and would prefer something that could use the same axles driveshaft and everything I would prefer Awd and a Manuel what would you guys recommend I look for

thanks for the help in advance and have a nice day

  7. I suppose the reason you want a more common stud pattern is wider choice of rims ? Welcome to old Subarus !

Learn to tolerate it. Snap up different rims as they pop up. Nothing nice is cheap either.

I do see your point in wanting disc rear and don't let GD put you off, just take head of the warnings to get your wallet out. Drums need to be in good order to work well all their life and that just does not happen as I found. I started with machined drums, oversize shoes ground to match, new slaves and adjusted them up for 100,000 km at oil change intervals of 10,000km. As I ripped them off for disc conversion I noted the shoes had not worn very much in all that time - sort of indicates they were not doing much work. The disc rear stays in tune all the way from new pad to worn out pad so long as calipers are good, fluid is good. So you keep the better braking for the life of the disc rear

Yeah I found a way to convert the lug pattern pretty cheaply but know I just have to find 15” rims

  8. Hey guys I was having trouble finding the parts needed to convert a brat to 4 wheel disc and I’m looking to overhaul the entire brake system with a different lug pattern I’m looking for discs that will fit in 15” rims and preferably a more common lug pattern thanks guys sorry to have to ask twice

  9. Hey guys I am building a ea81 and was told to use ea82 SPFI pistons while other people are telling me to use ea71 pistons and I was told to get a torque grind cam and a get a ea82 intake i wanted to know

Where and which pistons to use

If the intake will work with my block and hitachi carb

If the cam is a good idea

And will I need any machine work for the heads/block to use all this stuff

    thank you guys

Sorry If I seem clueless I’m only 18 and have a brat for a project

  10. There aren't any links. The source is my own experience. It's not difficult to search and find this info based on what I've given you. You split the case, swap the cam, install new bearings, etc, and install 86 to 94 SPFI pistons. Compression goes up to 9.5 from 8.7 and the cam does the rest.

And even if you did this - 90 HP is not at all impressive. If you want power swap in an EJ22 or EJ25. Instant 135-165 HP. You'll never get even close to this with an EA.

    GD

Do you know we’re i can get those pistons and crankshaft
  11. Hey guys I’m building a brat with a ea81 (150k on it) and wanted some extra ponies in case of an emergency I’m going to polish the intake and open the exhaust a little are there any ways to get a significant boost without turboing and making it a fuel injection thanks in advance

  12.

Magnaflow, they make a SS header with cat already in it. Then add a SS Magnaflow straight thru oval muffler. Don't remember the part number but I will try and look it up for you. That is what i am running on my 87 now. Sounds relatively quiet in the cab and pretty good outside when someone pulls away with it.

Any chance you could leave a sound clip
