I started out this time last year with no car at all due to a first time driving in snow incident then my next car getting stolen in the first week of living here just about the same time as my living situation fell through ... All in a town and state where I didn't know literally anyone.. Now I have 3 running subarus .. A 2008 Polaris ranger 700 xp and a sick camper all sitting at my house .. That backs up to the Applegate river . 96 legacy is a zero hp no fun stepping stone my friend .. Compared to cold and homeless .. Its a world of fun.. Compared to what I'll have by the end of summer .. Its not even worth mentioning Aaaaand there's my novel for everyone to probably not read ha .

I enjoy driving with a MTover auto trans by like a million. Purly based on what i enjoy more and not what's more reliable fuel efficient or whatever else ha
I'm not knocking the transmission or any other part of my legacy by any means . Its just not nearly as fun to drive is all. IMO of course, gentlemen.

I'm ok with it being more of a hurdle . full disclosure.. I kinda hate the RX. The car itself is boring and ugly as hell. Plus I have an emotional attatchement to my GL. She was my first! (Subaru) .

Ok so I gave the 85 rx turbo to a friend (who's yet to come get it ) also came up on a 9y legacy L sedan .. Auto trans tho :/.. I wanna do a MT swap into the Lego but was thinking I might as well just get the MT then throw the Ej into my 84 GL wagon, which is still my favorite of the 3 subarus I currently own . So since the RX is may not be getting picked up by my buddy .. What can I take off of the 85 RX and 96 Legacy L to do some cool custom mix of the three on my 84 GL wagon? And I'm sure it can't be done (easily or even without a whole lot of work I'm incapable of at least ) but, will any of the 3 manual transmissions I have bolt up to the ej22 in my legacy ?? The rx and the gl have 5 speeds .. Gl is FWD.. And I have a whole other tranny that came with the gl sitting in the garage collecting dust .. Not sure what it came from .. It is off an older subi tho I'm pretty sure ha

Ok I have a 96 legacy and it's an automatic .. Which IMO! is like slapping God in the face.. Anyways I'll probably end up selling it and just buying another simular model and year but with a manual transmission that came stock or is already swapped .... BUT for sake of I don't choose the easiest and or most logical option most the time, here's my question . What subaru can I grab a MT from thats going to be the easiest and least complicated to stick in my current 96 No fun mobile ? Is there a specific one that just bolts right up and has little to no wiring harness mods or what have you? .. Ps I'm not broke but I'm not wealthy . Thanks a million in advance . You guys have really helped me more than I can express gratitude for via post ha .

Its not leaking from the lines . Its squirting out from the middle of the caliper thing . I think thats what its called

Just got this car a few days ago and the brakes were making a God aweful noise when I'd step on them .. Popped the hood no brake fluid at all so I filled it up with 2 bottles .. Was for for a minute then the brake peddle would depress all the way and the brakes were almost non existent once again .. Bought MORE brake fluid and noticed that it was draining out somewhere behind the back driver side wheel . Is this a relatively easy fix or not? Never messed with the brakes on any car before.. Oh and my blinkers stopped working out of nowhere . Doesn't make the usual noise nor light up at all . Do i just need New lights? I'll probably go probe around to figure that one out but figured I'd throw it out there while I'm on here ha. Thanks guys .

I have 2 extra fuel pumps laying around ones like 40 and the other 80 psi .. Should I try to throw either of those on?

Cars running like garbage but running .. Super low idle and dies if I don't keep pumping the gas .. Sounds like every bit of liquid in it is boiling after a short drive even with the fan always on (has a radiator out of an 84 GL ea81) ... Don't know if the temp gauge works . seems to be hit or miss .. Oil pressure gauge might be broken .. Says I have zero OP and kinda increases when I rev the engine . sometimes it doesn't move at all . Have to get a running start to make it up my driveway that's a little bit of an incline.. During a few mile test drive earlier it was popping or backfiring rapidly in 2nd and 3rd I believe .. Sounded like my car was farting ha. Was hoping someone could help me get me started on getting this beauty running good and resolving the above mentioned issues . A million thanks to those who have taken time to help me hatch stuff out so far and get this thing even rolling . I really do appreciate it .

I almost made a sweet deal with this dude in boulder because he had one too many cars
This was the deal: to sell me his car for really cheap, like $800 or less
Then I would do an ej22 swap and get the body back to the factory paint (she looks black primered, but that is actually rhino liner lol)
Then later on, if he wanted to buy her back I would sell back to him for cheap, basically double what he paid.
He was in a position to take about $600 so if and when (Hopefully IF for me) it was time, $1200 is a nice deal for a swapped sube like that.
We rode to the parts store in my 86 and he was loving life, he wanted that engine in his car
We were going to trade straight up, he wanted to do it, but that rhino liner was a bit of a bummer.
Sadly for me, he found a place with room for all his cars.
Anyway, maybe you can make a similar deal? That would be a great story to tell at car shows
I'm a bit of a f**kin weirdo hippie kid and don't work a whole lot during the winter so you might have to find some fool on CL or something because a lot of the sube dudes I know don't visit this forum a whole lot...

I have a bosche timing light I just got . Never used one before so any pro tips on setting the timing with it? Or is there a better way?

I did the rotation between the first and second belt . And how should I wire up the fuel pump? Cause right now it's wired from the + battery post to the + side of the pump(15amp circuit in between battery and pump on + side) and from the - battery post to the - side of the pump ha . Seems like it's drowning it or something idk

Just,got the rx to start! Replaced the timing belts . doesn't wanna stay running,tho .. I have a timing light . Now I just gotta figure out how to use it and why all the water i out in it seems to be burning up hella quick . Like I can hear it sizzling I think . I'll go double check everything . I was super excited it started . Drove it up my 1/4 mile driveway and back ha . Doesn't feel like it's running at 100% at all . ,

Redid the timing belt and it fired right up! But it dies unless I keep pumping the gas ha . Radiator has a hole in guessing cause it's running out of water fast and it's smoking and sizzling but can't really tell where from . I'm just pumped it fired up! Haha

I'm interested in buying the RX. Do you have photos? What's the mileage on the car? Any rust?
I'm leaning more towards keeping the RX but just to keep all options open .. Only has 125 thousand miles on it and zero rust

I have one .. 84 GL wagon FWD . ea81 hydro lifters and I have another ea81 with solid lifters. I have all the parts for both engines as well. I'm in southern Oregon btw. Little bit closer than norway by my calculations lol

Ok so I rewired the fuel pump and it works now . on a kill switch but it works . Pulled the dizzy cap off and the rotor isn't spinning while I'm cranking the engine . Whaaaat now?

I've read on here that you can use an ea81 dizzy in an ea82 by doing something with the gear at the end. Don't know if I have that right but my question is can you modify an ea82 dizzy to work in an ea81?
