  1. So I picked up a 2008 Outback XT that won't run. It has 172,000 miles. I got it to start for a couple seconds. It ran horribly rough, smoked and wouldn't rev at all then stalled. And made a rattling sound. So I took the cam belt covers off and find the timing marks are off by a tooth on 2 cams. So given the out of time situation can I assume there has been valve to piston contact? Or is worth putting a timing belt kit in it and see what happens? Looks like plugs are impossible to get at without lifting engine. I know a compression test will tell the story on valve condition but hard to get in there, Thanks

  2. Hello, I could use some help please. My 2007 Outback 2.5I overheated  due to head gasket leaking compression into cooling system. I did everything the right way, I had the heads machined flat and used Subaru parts to reassemble. Upon initial start up it ran rough which is not a surprise. It had a rough idle and stumbled with throttle. Then CEL came on so I scanned it. That's when all the misfire codes came up. I cleared them out it ran perfect for a day until just now. Cold engine after work and the scenario repeated exactly. I cleared codes and drove home with no further issue. I reused my plugs and wires since they only had 15,000 miles and looked fine, And yes they are NGK . And this issue never happened before the cooling issue. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

  3. Thanks GD! I have driven about 175 miles since I replaced the primary O2 sensor. CEL has not returned and over 21mpg, It's running normal again. So on your advice it looks to be better. My final question is why do I get a PERMANENT P2097 stored? Can a dealer clear it? But fortunately no light on the dash is on so I have cruise and traction control again. Erik

  4. Happy Nee Year! So I installed my new Denso MAF. Was good for a bout 5-10 miles. Fuel trim was low and MPG went up and exhaust didn't smell foul. Then it happened again. The fuel trim went high again, MPG dropped and exhaust smelled bad again. I'm afraid the dealer might be my next move. More guessing on $100 sensors will add up quick. Any other suggestions? Is the primary O2 sensor still reasonable to replace? Someone mentioned that was the next most likely issue. Then to the dealer if it doesn't help? Thanks again.

  5. Hopefully someone with computer knowledge sees this. My 2010 Forester with 5 spd is doing the exact same thing with P2097. I have 108,000 miles now. I did timing belt, water pump, plugs and wires and replaced air filter and pcv about 5,000 miles ago. I am scanning my computer now as suggested previously. MAF is 0.36. MAP is 8.3. Coolant is 199. ST trim -3.1 and LT trimmis 28.1. Cat con temp is 413. O2 voltage bank sensor 0.955. O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 is 0.086 is that enough info to know what’s going on? Please help and thank you!

  6. Hello Everyone! I am excited to find your group that includes all Subarus. I had only found others groups that were specific to one model. I have 3 different models so this works better for me. I own 6 Subarus (including a parts car). 2 of them over 200,00 miles and another one is close. So I am becoming decent at Subaru repairs (head gaskets, pressed in wheel bearings etc) But I am always trying to learn more not to mention just being a huge Subaru fan. I also just became a Subaru Ambassador which I am very excited about! If there are any other Ambassadors here, could you please give me some advice? Thanks guys and gals!

  7. Howdy, I'm new here too. Your mention of the Tribeca got my attention. My wife has always had Suburbans but my kids all drive now. So the gas guzzler got sold. We already had 4 Subarus and I wanted another but she wasn't ready to go down to a small Subaru. So the Tribeca was a good compromise for us. Now she caught wind of the Ascent coming out in the summer. We're pretty anxious to see that one. I'm looking to learn even more too. #SubaruAmbassador.
