  1. On our 2014 Outback, I will be putting snow tires on after market rims for winter use, then back to OEM for the summer season. I am curious if the tire pressure light will come on, and if so, how do I disable it while the winter tires/rims are on.
  2. Hello, our turn signal lever is not making good contact. When moving the lever down (to turn left) it just clicks real fast, and no lights blink. (no it is not the bulb). When you gently lift it up just a little bit, it will blink, but you have to hold it there or it will drop back down, or click into its "home" location. I am thinking there must be some contact that need cleaned. (had to do that on our power window lever in the door handle). Is this possible? I had our dealer check it, and he said the turn signal lever assembly needed replaced - $180.00. Anybody know if it can be cleaned? Thanks.
  3. Our 2000 Outback cigarette lighter only works when you have the ignition on. How can I change that so it has power all the time - when the key is off. Thanks,
  4. Ended up being the spark plug wires. The Dealer pulled the code, which indicated missing. The #4 plug was a little fowled, and you could hear the clicking near it where the plug wire was arcing. New plug wires (and I went ahead and put new NGK plugs in it) and it's back on the road again. Thanks to "grossgary" for his reply and info. BTW the dealer only charged me $48.00 for the plug wires, not checking out the car or reading the code. The service people here are great! -Kev
  5. This sputtering/missing at low rpm has been happening for about a month. I actually had the car in to the dealer a week and a half ago. They replaced the head gaskets on warranty, and I had them also do the 105,000 mile service which was timing belt, adjust valves, the other two belts. I thought they might notice the missing when the test drove the car, but didn't. I was also thinking if I run a bottle of injector cleaner, thru, and blow out the gas filter, that might be it. (didn't want to pay the dealer $25.00 for a $2.00 bottle of cleaner) Soooo, since it is getting worse, not better, and since the CEL came on, I just called them and said since I had it in, it was missing, and they scheduled me for Wednesday. We don't have an auto parts store here in town that will read codes, and I would have to probably go to the dealer to get new plug wires anyway, I might as well have them read the code and deal with it. Thanks for your help and advice.
  6. Me again, My Wife drove it to work today, she called and said when it sputtered starting off this morning, the CEL came on. If I tell her to take it to the dealer, will they be able to plug in a code reader and tell what the problem is, since the CEL came on?
  7. Our 2000 Outback has started missing a little bit at idle. Then when you give it the gas, it sputters a bit, then runs fine down the road. If you coast up to a stop light, then it changes to green and you give it the gas, it sputters, coughs, while changing to the lower gear, then runs fine. Air filter is fine. 95,000 miles on the car. Spark plugs were new 5,000 miles ago. Fuel filter new at the same time. Recently put a bottle of injector cleaner in the tank, no change. I took the fuel filter back off and back blew it out with compressed air. No change. Any ideas? Oh, I hosed off the engine the other day at the car wash, and seemed to do it a little worse on the way home. Maybe that indicates a cracked wire? I looked at the plug wires and they look just fine.
  8. I dropped it off this morning at the dealer. Not far from where I work. They just called, it is the head gasket. It will be covered under warranty. Now, do they pull the engine to do this? If so, should I try and get the timimg belt and valves adjusted now, to save some money? 95,000 miles on the car. I am told the timimg belt/valve adjustment is about $800.00 Water pump too? Or just wait until it goes? Thanks for the advice, -Kev
  9. I need new brake pads on our 2000 Outback (95,000 miles). I am sure I can do the job myself this weekend. Before I jack it up, get the wheels off, what tools will I need? Any other advice? (Replaced the brake pads on my Chevy Silverado a few months ago, and realized into the job I needed a large torx wrench, instead of the large allen wrench I had for prior years Chevy trucks) Thanks for your help! -Kev
  10. And how about the glass on those lights. Both mine look like they have been shot with BB guns. Several holes in each. Have to replace the bulbs often, what a pain. I have tried to get the glass off of the housing to see if I can get new ones, it has two metal clips, which just break the glass anyway. So, I just put clear packing tape on the holes in the glass and hope for the best. I am sure you can buy wire screens for these lights, probably should do that, but why does Sub not do so?
  11. While underneath my 2000 Outback trying to find the coolant leak, I noticed sticking out of the side of the automatic transmission just above the pan, was what looked like an oil filter. I tried to find info on it in the owner's and maintenance manuals, but couldn't. Does this need changed? If so, how often. Thanks folks! -Kev
  12. Looks like I have cought the same leaking head gasket virus that infects many suby's. Our 2000 Outback with 94,000 miles is not overheating, but the coolant reservoir needs to be brought up to the line 2 or 3 times a week. I could not find a leak, although you can sure smell anti freeze. I replaced the upper radiator hose and put on a new cap. Tightened all the hose clamps. Still leaking somewhere. Well, yesterday I believe I found a small leak on the driver's side just above the drive shaft. Must be a head gasket. Before I head off to the Dealer, isn't there a recall and/or extended warranty for this? I remember I got a recall in the mail a little over a year ago where I had to take it in and they put something in the coolant. I bought the car new from this dealer. Any advice before I take it in to the dealer so I don't have to pay to get it fixed? Thanks for your reply! -Kev
  13. Hello, (new to this forum) Question #1, I can not find a Haynes repair manual for our 2000 Outback. Amazon doesn't seem to have one either. Any suggestions? Question #2, Once in a while, our 2000 Outback (85,000 miles) dies for just a second. If idling, it will quit. If driving down the road, it just seems like a "hickup". I purchased a fuel filter, but have not installed it yet. I am thinking that is the problem. Also, the last time it did it's hickup, the CEL came on. Is there some way of telling what caused the CEL to come on? Is there a gizmo I can purchase that can plug in and tell me? About two months ago, I put in a K&N air filter, this couldn't be related could it? Thanks for your help! -Kev
