Check the XT-6 site. http://xt6.net/ Huck's got his 5 spd swap info posted there, so I'm pretty sure it's a direct fit.

Hmmm... that's a question. I know nothing about the XT-6's 4wd setup. Is it 4wd or continuous AWD? Is it stub axled like other Subies to drive the front? If so, I'd think any other AWD tranny would work. I GUARANTEE Huck369 knows!!

You don't need to wait for an XT-6. You can use any '90's vintage Subie as a donor. They will virtually ALL bolt up. The only thing that might change is your final drive ratio, which isn't a big deal if you've got the rear diff that matches the tranny. I don't recommend searching for parts one at a time. (I've done it). Look for a parts donor car.

The drivetrain on the XT-6's and the SVX's are quite similar. The 5 speed swap procedure would be almost identical, except for a couple of minor wiring issues. Actually, the XT-6 would be a lot easier since the factory offered a 5-speed. That means all the parts you'd need (pedal box, trans crossmember, etc.) which have to be fabricated for the SVX would be available. I've done the SVX swap- sounds lilke you could handle it. Talk to Huck369- he virtually invented the SVX 5 spd swap and has done a good write up on it at the SVX site.

I'll work on those dimensions in the morning. If you're thinking water-cooled, how about an AWD Subie drivetrained VW Cabriolet?

I haven't fooled with an XT-6, but I've got a lot of experience with the SVX motors, the 4 cyl Subies, and VW's. I believe that virtually all Subie motors from 1990- 2001 will bolt up to your tranny. The bolt pattern will vary (some have more or fewer), and there might be minor machining (some starters mount with bolts, some on studs), but nothing that your average backyard mechanic couldn't handle. The location of the drive pinion is the same throughout the product line. Is your tranny manual or slushbox? I can get you those 4 cyl measurements probably tomorrow.

I think I've just been chasing a rabbit with the whole EFI thing. I'm leaning toward sticking with my original plan. I'm going to get it running on the carb as best I can, spend some seat time in it getting the handling right while we are putting together the drive train, then I'll go ahead and put in the SVX motor. That should go a long way toward messing up the handling!! Thanks for the help!

viehmann: Any idea where I can get the stuff for an EFI conversion? The intake is the main thing. I might even hit you up for a spare carbed intake and attempt something really wild. We were talking yesterday about cutting up an intake, modifying it to accept Suzuki GSXR individual throttle bodies, and using a stand alone engine management.

I've got an '88 Justy (first Gen) with a gummed up carb. Anyone out there good at rebuilding these? I'd like to box it up and ship it off to someone. Alternatively, if anyone has all the goodies needed to convert one to EFI for sale, let me know. I'd like to consider swapping. Thanks!

Where do I join the 360 driver's club? Yeah, it will definitely be a different motor. It will be built for the Grassroots Motorsports Challenge. I build a different project car each year with high school students and we enter them there. Happen to like working with weird Subies. I've already got my project for this year, so it would be for next year at the earliest.

I'm looking for a 360 for a school project. Any condition, but would prefer a complete car. This will be for a low budget racer- it's got to be inexpensive. I expect this to be a long search- I'd appreciate any help I can get!! Thanks! -Paul

I'm with you, RallyJusty- there are not really any constraints! I'm not sure I'm following you- did you put your motor in the front? Is it AWD? How's it run? Do you drive it on the street? PLEASE tell me more about your cable linkage- I'm going to need one! I've got a FWD tranny so there is no rear drive output. I can move it further back and use the front outputs. I think I'll have a bit of play to shift it for weight balancing.

Whoa, yeah! How come you didn't bring it back for '05? I was the only Subie- kinda lonely!! The SVreX took on a new look for '05: Bring something in '06- we need more Subies!

Oh yeah, BTW, I do recommend their magazine, Grassroots Motorsports, and it's sister, Classic Motorsports. Both beautiful mags with great info. A little light on Subies, though. They are starting a project car rally cross Impreza coupe.

Cool guys- thanks for the help. Keep it coming. I've considered AWD, but the only feasible way I can think of is with the engine in the front. The engine bay is too small to fit an EJ20. If that didn't stop me, budget and safety regulations certainly would.
