  1. Does anyone think I may be tricking the crank sensor. By diconnecting the plug wire it see's an open cylinder ?
  2. I posted a thread about my 96 legacy not starting a couple weeks ago. This morning it was the same thing again.crank..crank..crank. The last time it happened I removed a plug wire from the coil pack and plugged in a sperate test wire to see if I was getting any spark. The car fired right up !!. This morning after not starting for 15 minutes, I popped the hood, disconnected the same plug wire from the coil pack and I'll be damned if it didn't fire right up. I shut the car off..reconnected the wire and it's been running fine all day. Anybody have any idea whats going on here. Its a 2.5.
  3. I think it's FM that I"m pretty sure as to what the hell a Chaff and Flare load is.
  4. Previous to the car restarting yesterday, I had the battery checked and it's connections. The test results were that the battery was fine and the connections were tight. At times it would fire right up..other times it would just crank..crank..crank. The battery ran dead thru over cranking and draining it. Thats why I am so confused..at times it fires right up..others..crank.crank. And when it does fire up..it runs like a charm.
  5. Thanks guys....learned what a fob is today !! 1 more question....can this keep a car from starting, acting as a kill switch ? Still trying to figure why the car wouldn't start.
  6. The worst has happened. My wife went out to investigate the clicking noise and promptly fixed it. There is a little @#$%^&*ing plunger up under there somewhere...she pushed it in...no more clicking ! My life is over...bye all
  7. http://www.cars101.com/outback_archive95-97.html use this site....15.9 is capacity
  8. My car has been sitting in the driveway for about 2 hrs now and the clicking noise is still there. Maybe the thing will blow up.... . It is obviously getting juice from the battery to SOMETHING....BUT WHAT !!!!! :-\ Its almost like a turn signal click...but a slower sequence.
  9. Hi folks, I'm having a very confusing problem and am hoping someone here can help. My 96 legacy outback 2.5 has not wanted to start for the last few days and I eventually drained the battery attemting to start it. I put the battery charger on and it started to make this weird clicking noise inside the car. I paid no attention and let it charge. 2 hrs. later I go out and..bang..it fires right up. Now I'm confused as to why it wouldn't start before and even more confused because that damn ticking noise inside the car won't stop !! Whether this is related or not I don't know, but when I turn the car off, it shows both front doors ajar on the dash.
  10. Hi Josh, I went to take another look at the photo's and it seems the site is down ...? lol..is it me or the site?
  11. Hi, Can someone tell me where to locate the cam and crackshaft sensors on a 96 Subaru Legacy Outback 2.5. Also, are there any sites on the web with any diagrams or engine photo's giving these locations. Thank You
  12. Linda, it may be a good idea to contact your insurance company. They may have dealt with this issue before and may be able to help you.
  13. Hey Linda, On the bright side, the tow company may be paying you book price for your Subaru in the near future. Every tow company out there knows how a Subaru is be towed, so they have no excuse !!
  14. Hi Linda, Talk to the guys at Maroney's in Smithon. If you need their number ,let me know.
  15. Hi Frag, Never took the check engine lightly,my mechanic told me what the code was for but I forget what it was. I do remember him saying it wouldn't effect the running of the automobile but I will take your advice and get it rechecked if I can get it started...lol. After spraying the starting fluid and the car not starting or even wanting to fire I am real confused now. I was leaning towards it being a fuel problem but now.....thanks Frag
  16. Go with the outback. Next to the Audi awd (at about 40k) it may be the best car out there. I put 300,000 on my first outback and wish I still had it.
  17. Hi all, I'm new here and hoping for a little help. I have a 96 outback legacy that started acting up about a month ago. The problem started with the car just cranking and cranking till it would finally fire. Upon firing it ran like a charm(like most sube's do). At time"s it fire up right up,other times,crank..crank..crank. As of right now it will not start at all, just crank...crank..crank. I sprayed some starting fluid in it as a last resort and nothing. The check engine light is on,but,it's been on for about a year so I don't believe this to be the current problem. I was just wondering if anyone here has had a similar problem and how they fixed it. This is the 2.5 engine. By the way this is my second 96 outback, the first one had 300,000 mile before I retired it,wish I had it back !!!!
