  1. @jeryst with my extremely limited car knowledge I can’t help you. Do you know what type of fluid it’s leaking? Is it coolant? A picture of the tube would help others give you an answer.
  2. I torqued everything down to spec after replacing all those parts. Should I go back through and double check everything? Is it possible a nut or bolt has loosened up?
  3. The sound is about 2.5 seconds into the video and it sounds like a short piece of 3/8” threaded rod being dropped on concrete.
  4. So I just had the front end up. Spun the tires and heard the rubbing. Removed the tire, caliper and rotor. Made sure the two surfaces where the rotor and hub meet are super clean and smooth. Put everything back together and now I’m hearing a metallic sounding ‘clink’ or ‘tink’ when I rotate the tire. I do remember hearing that same sound several times while driving the other day. I’m pretty sure I was hearing it while accelerating or when coming to a stop. I took a short video where the sound is audible. Going to see if I can upload here... IMG_5924.MOV
  5. 2011 Impreza Outback Sport. Im going to get the car jacked up tomorrow and see if I can figure it out.
  6. Thanks for the tip. Do you think I warped my rotor? Are they easy to warp? I barely hit the thing and it was only with a 1.5# rubber mallet.
  7. I looked at that, doesn’t appear to be rubbing. ill check again when the cars jacked up.
  8. I just posted my first topic in the 1990-Present category. I can’t remember if I’ve introduced myself yet or not. Im Bryan and I own a 2011 Impreza Outback Sport. Ive owned this one for almost two years now. I had a 2010 previously but totaled it :’( Over the last couple of months I have begun to do my own work on the car. It has been fun with several head aches and a broken finger thrown in the mix already. Misplaced a hammer swing when trying to bang out the broken tip of a screw extractor from the snapped pinch bolt. Anyways, I look forward to sharing my work with you all and learning a lot along the way!
  9. I recently replaced the control arm bushing, sway bar end link, knuckle, hub assy, ball joint and dust shield on the front passenger side of my 2011 Impreza Outback Sport. I torqued every nut and bolt to spec. Took it for a quick trip around the block and everything felt and sounded good. Took the car on a longer ride yesterday and heard a rubbing sound. It wasn’t continuous. It was up and down in loudness and the frequency would increase and decrease with RPMs and would be much louder when I pressed on the brakes. One thing I will mention is that when I was trying to remove the rotor I did give it 4 or 5 light hits in different spots to try to free it up. I used a 1.5 lb rubber mallet and again they were light hits, I wasn’t winding up like Sammy Sosa. Without removing the wheel, I peeked through and didn’t see anything obvious. Although, I am brand new to the world of doing my own work on my car, so I’m not sure how much should be obvious to me at this point. I plan to remove the wheel sometime in the next couple of days to dig in to it. Can you all please give me some ideas on what to look at once I get the wheel off or share your thoughts on what might be making the sound. One last thing... there was a “different” smell coming from that wheel well at the end of my trip. I can’t really think of a way to accurately describe it. It just wasn’t something I remember ever smelling before. Thanks!
  10. When I test drove my most recent car (2011 Impreza Outback Sport) at a Subaru dealer I noticed it had a sort of “whine” that started around 30 mph. The frequency of the whine would change based on RPMs. I told them I wanted the car but not until they looked into and fixed that noise. I had owned a 2010 model for 5 years prior and never heard anything like that, so I knew the noise wasn’t right. They called me a couple days later and said they had their mechanic look at it - which I highly doubt ever happened - and he said it was “better than new, and there was nothing wrong with the car.” So I bought the car and drove it home...the noise was still present but I trusted their word that it was ok. I figured the noise would work itself out and go away. A couple weeks later it was still there and hadn’t changed at all. I took the car to a different Subaru dealer closer to me for them to look at it. They came back saying it needs a new transmission. So I immediately call the dealer I bought it from to tell them the issue and that they need to fix it ASAP. I bring the car to them and lo and behold they actually find an issue this time! LOL. I don’t remember exactly what they did to the car, but I’m pretty sure it had something to do with the differential. Whatever they did, the noise went away and I haven’t heard it since. Maybe your issue is the same?? When I bought the car there was 110k miles on it.
  11. I’m Bryan. Excited to be here and learn everything I can. I have a 2011 Impreza Outback Sport. I’ve owned a Subaru since 2010 but just recently started trying to learn how to do my own work on my car. I have watched many hours of videos on YouTube. I just picked up the service manual for my car. Yesterday I completed my first ever coolant system flush and the sense of accomplishment I felt was awesome! Next on my list is replace front control arm bushings, sway bar end links and sway bar bushings.
