take off stumble worse then hesitation
Today, I replaced the spark plugs. CYL 2 & 4 had a problem. The washer on the NGK's were not flat against the cyl head. One side was against the seat of the spark plug, and the opposite side of the washer wasup a few placeson the thread. Both 2 & 4 show carbon past the washer. Obviously this would likely be the problem. So I put new NGK's in, and I took the car for a spin. Wheew! No more hesiation. Then at the end of the day, it hesitates, and stumbles bad. especially with A/C on. So if we review, a couple weeks ago, I clean the TB and MAS... Problem goes away, good driving car. Until the end of the day. Today, I replace spark plugs... Problem goes away, good driving car. Until end of the day. Then the same stumble comes back. I will still say with a long time of driving soobs, this is not the normal hesitation. Something is wierd if the car seems great after fixing other parts then goes back to driving bad. Next is fuel filter just as Legacy25 advised. Any info is much obliged! Max

Mmmm... fan question?
Impreza_WRX_STi replied to blitz's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSo if you are driving 50 MPH, the wind speed is bogging down your fans, and the fans are blocking the forcible wind to the radiator. I am pretty sure my 93 Impreza's fans don't continuously run with the A/C on. Maybe it does, in 6 years I may have never realized it. MAX

Carbon Build-up SeaFoam Product Question?
Exactly how do you do the water cleaning? Pour a little down the PCV valve too? Max

Carbon Build-up SeaFoam Product Question?
I attempted this thru the PCV valve about a year ago. I kept the tube attached to the pcv valve, and pulled it off the other end, and turned it upright. Then I poured Seafoam on. It filled up the tube really fast. I watchd it, and it didn't seem to be going down. At that time my PCV Valve was about 2K miles old. So I said Oh ShEEt, and I rotated the tube back and drove around, and by the time I stopped about 30 minutes later the tube was empty, and I then pulled that off and the PCV valve looked normal. I did not see too many spills that may have indicated that when I turned the tube back around it all leaked out, out back thru the vacuum line. But I think it ended up going thru the upper internals of the engine after RPM's went up, as well as vacuum. But a year later, the Impreza still runs good with 215,000 miles! Max

Finally CEL light came on flashing. I believe the flash means misfire, now it stays on steady. Got the code pulled and it flashed p0302- Cyl #2 misfire. I suppose I will start with spark plugs, wires. Thanks for the replys. Max

DIY deep fuel injector cleaner
Impreza_WRX_STi replied to GTgal's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah, my fuel injectors went bad at 211,000 miles on my 93 Impreza. I am not sure where you can get seafoam in oregon. It is about a 16 oz white steel can, it is shaped like Marvel's Mystery Oil. Maybe if you do a google search it can tell you where you can find it locally. Maybe carquest, or napa. I know here in illinois Auto Zone don't have it. Max

DIY deep fuel injector cleaner
Impreza_WRX_STi replied to GTgal's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThrottle body and fuel injectors are sifferent. But both can be done, and both help. Maybe put a can of Seafoam in the gas tank. It is hard to find, but it works. Most typical FI cleaners burn harder than gas, this one is opposite it is more oil based and cleans very well, at least it works well with my 215,000 mile Impreza! Cleaning the TB is easy, take off intake to throttle body, get TB cleaner and spray it in and use paper towels (some people hate to use paper towels) to wipe around the inside of the TB. if you want to, and it helps. Plug a screwdriver on the outside of the TB, by the cables to hold the valve open. spray in there and wipe it in there to. If you do this try to focus on spraying the sides of the TB and not down the intake manifold. Hope this helps. If you need more in-depth info PM me! Max

Hesitation an Acceleration
Impreza_WRX_STi replied to crazyjam's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWill this mod only work with OBD-II? I have a 93 Impreza (EJ18) and a 98 OBS (EJ22)? I now my 93 dont have a knock sensor, actually I'm not even sure it has an IAT?

take off stumble worse then hesitation
I don't know I just bought the car used. Don't know what the maintenance has been like. It come with aftermarket rims tires, and blue brake pads. So the previous owner was probably an enthusiast, and we usually take decent care of our cars. I wonder who makes blue brake pads? Max

take off stumble worse then hesitation
Yesterday, before I was going to get a fuel filter, I went ahead and cleaned the TB with TB cleaner, then I cleaned the Mass Air Sensor, and the problem went away. Until today anyway, but it is not as intense. Oh well I am going to wait one more week for fuel filter and try to get the CEL to come on. Thanks for the comments. Max

take off stumble worse then hesitation
good thing to point out 'legacy25' I actually just purchased the car less than 1000 miles ago. I have drove 215,000 miles on my 93 impreza, and have had a ton of experience working on imprezas. Unfortunately I have never worked in an auto shop. I have been fortunate to have an impreza with high miles, and the message boards are to credit. I do want to change the fuel filter, but not til the weekend. The fuel filter definetely looks like it is stock, the arrows, the japanese symbols on it, but maybe not. Thanks,Max

need a new jack...
Are there any small hydraulic jacks(bottle jack) that will fit under an impreza? I got a 2ton bottle jack, it would be perfect if it was an inch smaller.

it has ej22, and this has happened thru at least the past few full tanks. Today, it even did it at idle? Got me stumped, just want to research before I was to take it to the shop.

take off stumble worse then hesitation
1998 Impreza OBS 77K 4EAT At a stop light or stop sign, if I take off a little more than light throttle (say 20-30%) The car will stumble. Once it partially backfired when I let off the gas to prevent it from stumbling. It will come out of the stumble as soon as I let off or 3000 RPM's. I have drove impreza's since 1996. I have no CEL coming on, and I havn't pulled codes, but I think it may have to do with fuel. Max

Will a used transmission leak due to old/dried up seals?
I need to get a FWD tranny for my EJ18. I see a lot of used trannys from 92-95, but if they sit for a few years is there and increased risk of leaks due to stuff drying out? What about internally? Maybe I could replace the seals on the outside of the tranny to prevent it from leaking, but would it be bad to sit a few years internally too? Any info is nice! Max

Any recipe for homemade fuel water remover?
Instead of using Heet i'm sure there is a cheaper way or even better way of removing water from gas. I know the main ingredient is Isopropyl Alcohol. I don't know if you can buy IPA off the shelf tho Max

4EAT--feels like I pop the clutch around corners
fluid is on full, but I worry about the mileage, and at stops when I take off it is also like having a clutch, it sounds cool! At a stop I push on gas and it revs to 3-4k while slowly moving forward then it grabs! Max
