OK I found one. It is a bit rough as it needed to bent back into shape (not sure why!) and the only spare clamp I had was from the choke but it should do the job.
Yours if you want it, send me a PM with your address and I will mail it to you.
Its all good! Thanks, PM sent.
-
I should have one around somewhere! I will check and let you know.
Thanks!
-
Just looked around and I dont seem to have this bracket.
You wouldnt have a spare one by any chance please?
-
Sweet! thats spot on thanks.

Perhaps it is an earlier manifold, I can take photos of my EA63 1400 (thermostat is in the middle) but basically the bracket for the accelerator cable mounts behind one of the bolts for the thermostat housing.
Yes please!
-
Thanks for the awesome closeups Lee, however my manifold is a bit different to yours, with the thermostat housing behind the carb, not to the side of it, so I think the bracket must be different!
I'll post a pickie on weekend.

Hi,
Does anyone have a clear photo of where the accelerator cable is anchored next to the stock hitachi carb on a 1600?
I just cant find where its little tie down bracket is supposed to bolt down - manifold, carb, where
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that. The acid is around the hold down clamp only though, not on the terminals - does that mean anything?
Yeah KMart is the lowest rung department store here.

..a higher amp alt gives you the ability for example to add on more accessories or to have your stock set-up being provided with 12+volts from the alternator rather then have the system under heavy load being helped out by the battery...however,you will burn wires, switches if you "increase" the amp draw on any stock device that may be on the vehicle without making changes first....for example putting in 100 watt head lights when stock is 45 watt..new wireing and relays will have to added..one of many reasons to have a 90+ amp alt..
So are you saying that as long as I dont change anything (lights etc) but the amp, it wont ruin anything?
-
Considering that the 1980s wiring was done for 50/55 amp alternator, would installing 90 amp alternator burnout wires/start engine bay fire?

Hi All,
I need to remove my EA82 from a GL. It has an auto box.
The question is, besides the engine to diff bolts, is there any other bolts I need to remove (eg crank to torque converter, etc)?
Thanks

Nice post mate. Read with interest.
I was wondering who the coupe went for. I thought of buying the GFT (its practically next door to me), but have two cars in garage and two in driveway already, so no room .

Hi All,
I got some stage 2 (1976 - 1979) wagon rear door seals for sale. Used but in excellent condition. I got them for my sedan, but turns out they are from a wagon.

Anyone got a part number for the cam carrier o rings please?
-
Thanks for that. Doe these require a spray of hylomar before fitting?
-
Hi,
I need to change the headgaskets on my EA82. Which gaskets would you recommend (from experience).
Thanks
-
As a starter, the intake side should have texture (ie not be mirror finish) as this helps the fuel and air mix.

Isn't there a large portion of your country under water at the moment?
Fair point. 3/4 of Queensland (thats roughly the size of texas), and a quarter of Victoria.
I am in Melbourne though and all is OK here. We are all rallying and donating for the victims Oz wide but.
-
Nice story, but I'm sure glad I live in Australia.

Hi GTlegs. Yes I am in Cheltenham and thanks for the offer. I'm 68 and have a best mate who I have known for 60 years. We are both retired so we alternate every Monday. One Monday we work on his cars and next Monday on mine, so I'm OK for help, but if we need someone fit, young & flexible I'll let you know. I'll have a word to Duggans and see what they can suggest.
Grossgary, I'd like to stick with the EA71 because it's a bit special. It has ported and modified EA63 GSR heads and camshaft, hand fabricated SS extractor system and twin choke downdraft Weber.
I think the heads are part of the problem as even thought the combustion chambers were opened up a bit my compression guage was showing about 195 psi per cylinder which I think put a bit too much strain on the main bearings. I've had VW Beetles in the past and they were known for ending up with oval main bearing supports if the engines were lugged at low revs, this sounds just the same, very heavy knocking until the oil circulates. With the VW's and Porsches you can get thicker main bearing shells and have the crankcase halves machined to suit. This would be my best option I just have to find out if they are available or not. Failing that I might have to go the skim the crankcase face route with all it's complexities.
Sounds like you have a decent idea re the noise, but are you certain its not just a spun bearing? These make a weird knocking noise too.
-
Thanks for the replies guys. EA71's are pretty rare these days in Australia. I will see if I can track down the thicker shells if available, that sounds like a good option.
Thanks again.
Mate, give Duggan balancing in Reservoir a call. They did all the machining and blue printing work on my Chrysler 360 and know what they are doing. They have a good reputation in chrysler and ford circles.
Really nice blokes there too - dont just dismiss you and explain everything. Dont know how much they will knwo about subaru engines, but worth a shot.
Otherwise how do you know its actually out of round and not something else?
Also, have you thought of dropping an EA81 in it? As you know I have a 77 GL, and I have an EA81 sitting at the back. I will see if its a straight drop in this xmas break and can let you know.
Youre in Cheltenham arent you? Let me know if you need a hand.

Hi All,
My white 1600 4 Speed sedan is now for sale (in Australia, Melbourne).
Basically after spending a fair bit of time getting it back on the road, it looks like its actually the carb that needs to be rebuilt. I have now just lost motivation.
My loss your gain. On ebay:
