Legacy stalls when put in gear
I think I have big trouble. I have a 90 Legacy 2wd automatic wagon. When I put it into gear the engine just dies. The engine idles fine and the car has been running good. All of the sudden this morning this happens. Anyone have any experience with this problem before? I hope its not the Tranny. Any info would help thanks. Dave

crankshaft pully
dawlfandave replied to dawlfandave's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks thats a great idea. I found a heavy belt type wrench like a chain one but with a hard rubber belt. It did the job pretty good without the marking of the pully. I started to get the chain type but decided on this for that reason and it worked fine. Again thanks for the Idea.

dawlfandave replied to dawlfandave's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX1990 legacy 2.2 151000miles. no service record at all. except for the 6000 miles i have driven it. I picked it up for 600 dollars. It needs a little tlc cosmetically but runs good, but i dont think any maintenance has really been done.

big troubles HELP!
I started to try to change my timing belt by myself. After removing one side cover and seeing it is a good thing I am doing this now I tried to remove the second side cover. (90 legacy 2.2L) I found the two bottom bolts are just spinning. The bolt threads are molded into the plastic molding behind the cover. I dont know how to get the bolts to come out. Any help thanks. I have to have this put back together by tomorrow morning for work. Thanks again

2.2 chunked a rod at 95k
dawlfandave replied to archemitis's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI needed a second car really bad. I went searching and was going to settle on a small pickup that barly ran for 1400 dollars. I stopped by a buy here pay here lot on the way home from work to pick up my money for the truck and found the legacy wagon. It has a small dent on the rear drivers q panel. It also had a small knock...(maybe lifter?). drove it and it ran strong. So for 600 bucks i felt it was a steal. I have put new tires on it a cv joing and a ball joint. 150k miles. I changed all the fluids and drove it on the interstate about 90mph and no more tapping ever. This car was a steal and I am glad I saved it because it was not taken care of at all. Its my first subaru and I have decided when my wifes car dies I will like to buy another one. Maybe a new one. I love it.
