  1. Well edrach you are my hero for the week! One wire on that connector was toast! I clipped it out and bypassed the connector. Works like a charm! Thanks everyone for all your help. Subaru owners are the most helpful people, I swear. I'm attaching an image of my connector if anyone cares to see it.
  2. I've got all new ground cables from the battery to the engine block, from the battery to the body and I added a new one from the starter to the body. Still nothing. It worked tosay when I jumped it so I thought maybe it was the battery so I took it in to a different auto parts store to have it tested and the battery and the charging system checked out fine. I'll look into the ignition thing tonight. I hope I have enough daylight. I really need to get this thing working right. I sold my other car the day before all of this happened. I haven't had just one car for atleast 4 years. Anything else I can try it the ignition checks out?
  3. Ok, I've been having issues with my starter the last couple days. It works sometimes, other times it does not. It's an '84 wagon, EA81. When I turn the key the solenoid clicks. So I replace the starter because every time it's done that on my other vehicles it solved the problem. Well, the first new starter I put it does the same thing. I take it back and make them give me a new one and it still does it. I check all my cables and clean them. I replace that dinky little ground wire with a 4 gauge wire. That fixed it for a couple hours. I had my cooling fan wired to my coil, so I rewired it figuring somehow it might be drawing too much power from the starter. Still didn't fix it. There is a little box in the passenger side of the car in the back corner that seems to click at the same time of the starter, but I have no idea what this is or if may be causing a problem. I'm attaching a picture of it, maybe someone here can tell me what it is and if it's normal or not. Does anyone else have any ideas for me?
  4. No I have not. I'll have to look into that. I would much rather do a brake job.
  5. I've been noticing a chirping coming from the front passenger side of the car while I'm driving. I'm pretty certain it's in the wheel somewhere. Could the bearings be going out? If so how hard of a job is it to replace them? Does anyone have any tips to make the job go easier? I've never had great luck with changing bearings, something always seems to complicate the job and make it take twice as long as it should. I have an '84 Wagon if that makes a difference.
  6. None of them are new though, right? I'm trying to avoid putting in a used one because it's so old there's a chance it might be getting clogged like mine is right now.
  7. Anyone have any ideas on where I can find a new radiator cheap? I can't seem to find one. I have an '84 wagon with a/c and a automatic transmission. Everone seems to have them to the manual but not the automatic. The cheapest I can find is $150.
  8. I fixed the problem. I finally had time to take the cover off the column and check the ignition switch one the solders broke loose. Thanks everyone for the help.
  9. The starter works fine, I just put it in not too long ago. When I turn the key, the starter starts going but the engine doesn't turn over. There is just no power at the coil to spark the engine. EDIT - I just bought the car and the ignition coild looks almost bland new, there's almost no dirt on it at all. But that doesn't mean it's new...
  10. Is there a way I can just bypass all that crap with a push button starter? I just need this thing to run for a couple months.
  11. Everything is where it should be. That was the first thing I checked. And it worked after I changed the thermostat, just not for long. I'll hunt for the relay tomorrow. Can I just do a continuity test on it?
  12. Any idea on where I would find this relay? Is it on or by the switch?
  13. What does it mean when there is no power at all at the coil?
  14. Yes, the heater fan comes on when to key is turned in the ignition switch. The starter works also, the engine just isn't getting any spark. The fuses are all fine unless there are more hiding somewhere other than the fuse panel. I really appreciate your help, thanks.
