  1. I installed a new condenser and drier on my Outback. I then took it to repair facility to pull vacuum. They did so for 50 minutes and said it was okay. I then charged it with 2 oz can of r134 oil and 12 oz of r134. My manual says this model should hold 24 oz. It would not even take the full can of r134. Current pressure on low side said 25lbs. How long does it usually take for a can to be sucked in? The good news is the system works and Im cool in hot weather, just want to get it working at its full potential. 96 Outback
  2. glad you found one that works. the ones I have seen don't have the right connection. My Outback has three holes in the reciver-drier to condenser connection all of the ones I have seen that are non dealer have two holes.
  3. AC condenser. I tried two of them from two different places both did not work. Finally got one from online Subaru dealer which worked. The connection on the side from reciver drier was wrong on both of the non dealer condensers. 96 Outback
  4. It has one wire going to it. The guage is getting power. When I turn on the key or start the car the guage goes from the resting place and swings all the way to 3 o'clock. Even during the middle of winter when I start the car the guage moves directly to this spot. It is indicating that the car is perfectly warmed up and where I would normally expect to see the guage after 10 minutes of driving. It never moves at all once at this spot. So the guage is getting electricty. The car is a 96 Outback. I assume you are aware that there are two sensors and one is for the ECU. I think it has two wires going to it though. If you do have the correct wire then it would seem that the wire to the sensor is open since the gauge did not change when you removed the wire from the sensor. Have you tried checking the voltage to the sensor? What model car do you have?
  5. I use Chevron 5-30 and Purolator filters. I will buy whatever brand oil is on sale but its usually the Chevron. Below is an article on oil filters and why I don't use Fram filters. http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil_filter_study/
  6. I replaced the temp sender today and at the same time flushed and replaced the coolant which was due. The temp. gauge still swings directly to the middle when the car is started as if its perfectly heated. It does not move even when the car is sitting and idling for 10 minutes. I disconnected the wire to the sender and it does not move from middle when the key is on. I know now its either the wire from the temp gauge grounding or the gauge itself is bad. The sender itself is a major PIA to remove and replace as their are lots of wiring harness etc in the way. After trying to trace the wire I'm about at the point of taking the car in. I can probably replace the gauge but if its a short in the wire I have no idea on how to trace this or for that matter run a new wire. The wire seems to go into a larger group of wires and then who knows where it goes. Anyone ever done this?
  7. Thanks for the great photos! I was clearly looking at the oil pressure sender on my car. I knew when i got the new part that had to be wrong.
  8. What I thought was the Temp sender located under the alternator is not.( what is that) I have a new temp sender.(the one going to the temp guage) Can someone tell me where it is located. I have a Haynes manual with a picture and Im still not finding it. 96 Outback
  9. I used Redline ATF. I drained some of the old non synthetic, added synthetic, drove some and did this twice. I like synthetic mainly for freezing temp driving when the AT seems to shift more stiffly. Most likely when your driving and the non synthetic trans fluid is not warmed up and flowing Im guessing your getting wear. Trans sure seems smoother.
  10. I have a 96 Outback. I need to replace the condenser and probably will replace the receiver dryer as well. Has anyone used aftermarket parts for this or is it best to buy original parts from Subaru? Where did you get the parts? I am going to need to replace the seals as well when I do the job and want make sure I get the right parts. Im not sure of the quality of the aftermarket stuff.....
