  1. The odometer in my daughter's '95 Impreza stopped working and I'm thinking I should try and replace the gauge cluster.  I believe the legacy cluster will swap in fine and they are much easier to find in the junk yards.

I've read through what I can find using the search but I was wondering if anyone has experience replacing an impreza cluster with a legacy cluster.  I'll start by searching for the same year Legacys and Imprezas.

  2. So my son crashed and totaled my beautiful "92 Loyale with only 110,000 miles on it. After much back and forth with my wife I gave in and bought another car for my kids to use.

I picked up a '95 Impreza with 125,000 miles on it. It has a 2.2 Liter motor with the 4EAT transmission. Of course after driving it a few days I realized it is experiencing torque bind. I believe it is the transfer clutch solenoid as the FWD fuse did not change a thing. (I will check the TCU codes next.)

I plan on flushing/draining the transmission, adding an additive and seeing where that gets me first. The dealer wants $160 for a flush and refill so I thought I would do it myself.

I've read so much about Sea Foam but have never heard mention of their transmission product Trans Tune. I was considering adding some prior to draining the transmission. Anyone have any experience with this product?

  3. I'm in nearly the same boat. My '92 Loyale is doing the same thing. I'm pretty sure it is a head gasket. I recently changed and flushed my coolant. Shortly after I kept needing to add coolant and at first thought it was just air in the system.

After adding nearly two gallons of 50/50 over a couple of months I have come to the realization it must be a head gasket. No leaks visible and I just found the smallest amount of foamy oil high up on the oil dipstick.

I just couldn't believe the coincidence that the head gasket went right after I changed the coolant and so initially thought it was just air in the system.

  4. I'll try to keep it short. I live on a private narrow lane. My car is parked on the lane and is usually fine. Neighbors constantly have bible study groups come and park in the lane. Twice now within a year my two Subarus have been backed in to by women (young teenage girls) leaving bible study group at night. Last time it was my 2006 Outback. Tonight it was my 1992 Loyale with 99,000 miles.

I am very sad and frustrated. They will pay for repairs but I don't know that I can get it anything close to it's original splendor. Any advice or shared knowledge is appreciated.

    Thanks

First picture is a Loyale (before) picture. Car is in driveway. At time of impact it was parked in front of my house in the lane you see.

These pictures were taken tonight after impact.

The other morning I started my car to find the very noisy lifter sound for the first time. I didn't have time to do anything about it so I left for work using the high rpm to clean out the oil passage theory. The noise went away soon after.

On the way home, I exited the freeway to see a small cloud of smoke coming out from under my hood. I checked under the hood when I got home to see I had sprung a coolant leak somewhere on the right hand (passenger) side of the engine. This same side has been experiencing a small oil leak for the past few months.

There is no coolant anywhere on the top of the engine. The radiator hoses and the heater hoses all look good and any other small hoses I can trace look fine. The crossmember had a small puddle of coolant on it and the smoke seems like it was probably from coolant hitting the catalytic converter. The bottom right side of the engine looks as though I tried to wash off the leaking oil with coolant. The radiator is still topped off so I don't think I'm loosing a whole lot of coolant.

I took the car for a test drive today and found I still get smoke off the catalytic converter after a drive. The car ran fine, good oil pressure and it did not overheat. When the car is running in the driveway I cannot see any active leaking anywhere. Between yesterday and today there are only a couple of small drops of coolant under the car.

Does this sound like a gasket on the cooling jacket of the engine? Thanks...

  6. '92 Loyale EA82-

Looking at my PCV hose, I see that just below the "T" junction the single hose coming up from below is held in place with a plastic holder. It then has to make a crazy bend forward over the holder to meet up with the junction and the other two hoses.

Just wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone or if I should pursue trying to figure a way to lessen that crimp in the hose.
