Hey guys, I was looking around for some snow tires, and this guy sent me some pics of ones he was selling. THe studs on them are rusting, however he said that they would be fine. Are they really?
Also, I have a 93 wagon, these came off a 1990 Legacy, these sould fit right?

Advanced Gave me mine for 80 after the core refund

Hey guys, I know a few of you were wondering about the alternator install, well, here they are!
-
Hmm, well, I have no idea! However a quick call or check on their website may help out.
-
Just a shot in the dark...did it do this after it rained? Or very humid weather? I know when I had bad wires my car behaved like this because the wires had water in them
Although I do agree with the o2 sensor problem as well, doesn't hurt to have it checked out.

Are you sure it is the alt? And did you have the alternator Load tested with the new battery? If you put a new or rebuilt alternator on a dead battery, it can cook it fast. You need to do the replacement at the same time, or at least close to the same time.
I would have the units load tested, as well as check all the cables for the charging system. Maybe you are electrifying a dead mouse under the hood for no reason.
-
Check the fuse otherwise...you may have cooked something
-
Check the voltage of the battery when the car is off...if it steadaly drops, its the batt
If not...sounds like an alternator problem to me. Also, chck the fusible link, it controls the charging from alt to batt.
-
Wow...well the dome light should'nt zap a battery like that so fast. Have you had the battery load tested recently? It may be a good idea to get a new battery if it is old.
-
Alright...I have been beating this idea around for a while...however I think it will be way to complex to master.
has anyone ever replaced their center console of a 93 Legacy Wagon? I know there are the seatbelt retentioners as well as the E-Brake cables in there I would have to build around.
I am thinking of mounting some radio equipment in the console...just figured I would throw it out there to you guys!
-
Replaced the Alternator Today...all is well.
Thanks for the help guys!

These are my choices:
Remanufactured; 70 Amp; Hitachi Type; w/5 Rib Serpentine Belt Pulley; Internal Fan; Internal Regulator
Alternator: Reman; 70 Amps; Serpentine 5 Groove; For Hitachi Systems
Alternator: 70 Amp

Does the radio work? Or is that Dead Too...I agree it sounds like you have blown that fuse. I know in my 93 Legacy I have a 15amp fuse on the nominal power wire which is inside the radio console, should be easy to get to since you had to open that up to install the new radio anyway.

Well...the backlight behind my tach went out about a week ago...now the one behind my speedo whent out. Uh Oh.
This is going to be a pain in the rump roast to fix...I know...I have a feeling!
Advise Guys? How do I tackle this?

So where do people reccomend getting an alternator from? I am looking for a high output model, that I can just bolt in. I am sure there is one made for it somewhere, however I just can't find it yet!
-
Yeah...I have a lot of crap in the car. I have the new battery, that's why I figured it was not this going, and also when I meter the battery, it is all good.
As far as a HO alternator, where can I get one that will fit? I imagine it's not something I can pick up at Autozone or Advanced auto Parts!
-
Definitely sounds like a lack of juice problem here.
I concur that you should check the electrical charging system in the vehicle.
-
How about compressed air? I have had success with clearing lots of debris from drain holes using nothign more than a compressor and an air hose!
-
Well this doesn't sound that hard at all...
Does anyone have specific instructions/steps on how to do this?
How about pictures...I know...I am greedy!
Also, what do I need to look for in buying an alternator? Obviously there needs to be a size/model/type I am looking for here. I also am interested in seeing if I can find a higher output alternator...however if not...the regular one would be fine!
Thanks guys for your help!

yeah...one slight problem...I am on an internship in Florida until Jan...and I don't have tools, or a place to work down here!!!
-
Can a "load test" be done at like an advanced auto parts? Is that the battery cart thing I always see sitting in there?
-
I think it is the alternator as well.
Any reccomendations on a replacement, as well as a shop to do it? I am in the Orlando Florida Region right now.

Alright...I am having voltage drops every once in a while when I am putting a strain on the vehicle...i.e. radio, wipers, and AC. I am now averaging a voltage of only 11.8 volts. Every once in a while for some reason it peaks right on up, however usually averages around that when the car is in motion. When I stop though, the voltage can drop down to 9 volts
How can I tell if it is the battery...or the alternator going?
Changing Alternator???
