  1. I bought a Sept 2001 Outback (in Australia) the other week and was wonderign if it was a Gen 1, 2 or what ever. I had a look at the labels under the hood and in the book and I dont recal it saying ... anyway is there a specific way to find out? thanks....
  2. Its a 1991 Lseries. Odometer = 285K Engine does not run hot before the aircon cuts out and stays within the normal 1/3 area. However on a really hot day with the air con running the temp gauge will go up into the top 1/3 area which is "pretty normal". I have never had overheating issues with this vehicle. I'll check to see if the comressor is spinning tomorrow. If I recall it does appear to have a clutch mechanism of some sort.
  3. When I first got my L series the air con was so cold that my feet would just about freeze and it would become uncomfortable (outside temp +30Cdeg). The next summer I noted a significant decresse in performance as I recall. The Aircon seems to stop and start in effectiveness, even at higher speed (80km) driving and appears to blow humid air until I turn it off and on again. At a stand still or low speed or stop start city driving the Aircon loses effectiveness entirely. Air Con gas was replaced even though the guy said "it didn't need it" and replaced it anyway, he could offer no other suggestions for performeance. Also the compressor(?) was also replaced. No additional performance or effectiveness was noted. Is is likely that this is an electrical or mechanical problem? Anyone able to provide tehir opinion or had a silimar experience? Please post away.
  4. Hi all, It's been a while since I visited ... but i sre need your help. My L series soob is in the garage here where it failed to start last night. It has always been reliable, I have had no history of problems starting like this one. Symptoms: Interior light illuminates battery @ 12.8v charged it this afternoon wipers do not operate no other bulb illuminates except some warning lights (occasionally) when turning the ignition key. no engine turn over - won't even try. I can't hear the starter solinoid click either. starter coil appears to be OK tests closed though I did not do a resistance test. when I turn the key I get a sizzling sound from underneath the steering colum near the change tray. Maybe the ignition unit? If I pull it out, how can I test it? is there anything else I should test for? I have not yet tried changign batteries with my wifes car, I do doubt that this will not be the problem. thanks for your input.
