  1. i could have sworn i just read abut a jdm ej20t motor but ok a 5 speed that will match up pretty easy to an ej motor and still fit in tje 88 dl
  2. ok im putting a ej20t motor in my DL now what tranny do i need sorry im new to all this car stuff so just work with me ill have plenty more questions
  3. now ive narrowed it down to the ej22 now do i go for the turbo or not and also whats a 4wd tranny running these days i think id like to put one of those in as well thanks for all the help guys
  4. what would i need to if i just slapped a turbo on it. would it just be easier to put a ea82t in there and do as much as i could to that or what
  5. the EA82 thats in it right now is just wasnt working well like just not working ive been thinking about the ej22 but are there any other engines that arent subaru that would work

  7. ok im not the best at reading every post on here so i ve gotta a few? first im ripping out the ea82 out of my 88 DL along with tranny 5spd 88 even in a 5spd just isnt very fun when my van picks up faster than it i want a bigger engine and 4wd now ive sen alot about these ej22 moters and stuff i just wanna know whats this gonna cost me and what would be the best stuff for me to use please answer

  9. ok so my 88 DL ea82 5mt needs an up heres what i want faster, awd(if possible), good offroad not like mudding but you know dirt roads, fun to drive and a 5spd what can i do and how much you guys will help me build this car
  10. 1988 DL thats all it is bone stock 1.8 thats all i want something that will be faster and will def work in the car i was thinking if i could make it 4x4 that would be great but if i cant then i want something fast.
  11. so i burnt the clutch on my 360 dollar DL so i figured this gives me a good reason to go ahead and do and engine and tranny swap what kind of engine and tranny do you guys suggest not too sure on what to do i mean i bought the car 3days ago so i dont know much about them

  13. oh yeah and the check engine light is always one and blinks when it revs high
  14. maybe it does backfire almost took my eyes out we removed the hose from the intake box to see if it would make a difference i got to see a nice firework from 2 feet away. lol. after that we looked in the throttle body and it was smoking quite a bit not sure on what that ment. we are planning to take a look at the spark plugs tomorrow and maybe an oil change. the oil in there right now seems to be doing alright tho not super black maybe 1500 miles in or so but who knows how long its been in there. thanks for all your help too
  15. ok i think i found the temp sensor is it located in the front left area if so it looks like it brand new he contacts are clean also what kind of oil and how much should i put in for an oil change
  16. where is the temp sensor located im not the greatest mechanic in the world here another problem is that i cant let her really come to a complete stop or she will die i have to keep the gas down when she is idle jsut to keep her alive.
  17. well the problem before was the car wouldnt run really at all then we fixed that hose. now its its like it takes 30min before we can drive the car. when we first start it you can t give it any gas or it wil jsut die. also the idle seems high not really to sure on what to do.
  18. i bought this old 88 DL a few days ago and we sorta fixed the prblem on it in of the hoses was pinched but we still have the problem where the car takes like 30min to heat up before we can take her out for a spin its a 5spd also thinking about looking for an other subaru to make into one of these off-roading machines you guys have what would be the best thanks for the help also wheres the best place to pick up an owners manual
  19. well i picked up from a mexi dealership for 360 bucks it had been sitting there for some time. its 2wd. we added fuel injector cleaner and filled the tank. we took off the exhaust from the middle right where it bolt together. cleaned out the throttle body a bit. and cut i nice hole in the wheel well to allow some more air to the intake. but the big question is why does it try to die when it first starts and we give it gas. we dont have a tack so we dont know what the rpm are like but it feels like we have to rev it past 3000 just to keep it alive. we thought it could be the MAF sensor since that what we dicked around with jsut to get it running the first time anyway im doing a oil change and coolent flush tomorrow and check the spark plugs and work on running some pipes to the back. but i have to say i love driving this little "red devil" as me and my buddy named it has anyone built any sway bars or anything like that cause the body just seems to move around like its nothing also how about removing the A/c since ill never use it
  20. just wondering what can i do to make it run better granted i only paid 360 bucks for it but it runs the biggest problem it has is that its hard to start it takes a 10minutes before the car can drive its a 1988 subaru DL thats all i know about it and its 5 speed jsut wondering what i could do to it to make it run smoother and maybe a little hp gain
