  1. I have a '96 subaru Legacy L class with 264,000 miles on it. I'm pretty stoked that the pump has gone THAT long without any service but alas, it has finally croaked. My question? How the heck do i get to it? would i need anything more then a socket set? I know that the timing belt and and covers need to some off, what precautions do i need to take in doing that. Thank you, Clueless Penny Pincher
  2. Is it recommended to put the FWD fuse in for commmon driving or will it destroy your tranny? If it works ok, i would rather have FWD for the summers and AWD for the winters. Can someone help me with this dillemma? Thanx
  3. 96 subaru Legacy Wagon, L class, 2.2 automatic, 261,000 miles. I used to drive a 200 chevy truck for work, and when i would put it in four wheel drive, sharp turns would make the vehicle jerk. I am expieriencing this on my subaru, only on a much larger level. The jerks happen almost all the time, but then there are days when it doesnt do it at all. I assume its the AWD. I read on some previous threads that theres a way to switch the awd to just a fwd with a fuse. and that that solves the problem usually. but they sounded a little undecided on the whole matter. Is this possible with my car, and if so, is it recomendable?

  5. Its got 9 years, and 261,000 miles. how much do you think a new or a used started would run? and do you know of any sites with a picture of the starter?
  6. Im new here but i figure i would give it a try. a week ago i went out to start my car and when i turned the key, nothing happened. now i shouldnt say nothing. the lights turned on and the stereo came on, but no engine. i thought of course that i must have a dead battery. so i tried to jump start it to no avail. I then figured that the alternator was dead, and my battery was shot. so i removed both and proceeded to an alternator specialist. after hooking the alt. up to his machine, he said that it was running fine. and then he hooked up the battery to his charger and checked, no problems there. so i took both back and replaced them back in my car. tried to start it again, nothing. everything works, windshield wipers, heater, stereo, windows, but no engine. so now i am thinking that it is my starter. what do you guys think? if it is my starter, is that easy to remove, or am i going to have to take it in? thanks
