I had same problem with my ea 81 85 gl I replaced the radiator and thermostat and now no problem. Good Luck

I have a 1985 1800 gl with an auto I think 3 speed any how It shifts into 3 rd at 45 and revs at 3500 rpm when I'm doing 65 mph. Is this normal for these cars to rev so high?? At 70mph it revs at about 3750. Any help thanks!! 1985 sub gl 1800 99,856 and $3,000 dollars later!!! Also can anyone advise on the oil pump seal fix for all the valve noise???,Thanks:banana:

tom thanks for the reply you helped me out once before. The mechanic put the fuel pump under the hood because he said the original was bad and was too lazy to do it right!! oh well. no wobbling in front that I notice but i'll check that out. I think you are right on the fuel pressure cause all problems started after his work. thanks again.:-\

My mechanic placed an inline fuel pump in the engine compartment of my 85 gl and had to disconnect the evap canister but I still have gas going into carb and flooding engine after driving and no start when its driven for any length of time.He disconnected evap canister because was pouring out of it. Next issue had a rumbling loud clunking under right front after hard braking. another issue replaced master cylinder,front pads and still no brakes.how many times do you need to bleed these things? last issue,MAYBE ---- does anyone have access to vacuum diagrams for the EA81 85 with hitachi carb? willing to pay. If any help out there please I spent mucho dinero on this car and would like to actually drive it. Only 99,000 original miles with used jap engine which runs pretty good. thanks!!!:boohoo:

Need some help,finall ygot my 1985 gl running with a used jap engine after 2 years of sitting.any how I have never owned a subaru and need to know what the deal is on the temp guage it gets past half going up hills. Checked radiator,hoses,cap,water pump etc no problems but seems to heat up quick . How can I check the vacuum advance? There's no pinging or loss of power up hills. Also what does it mean if it does hard start when hot,smells flooded ? Is there problems with putting in an non oem electric fuel pump and the vapor recovery is not working correctly. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.!!! :brolleye:
