  1. My speedo just gave out this weekend. 87 GL Wagon 4wd 5spd. I know 55mph is around 2700 rpm in 5th gear. I'm not so worried about highway speeds but all the little speed trap towns I need to drive through until I get it fixed. Can anyone take a drive and give me some rpms and gears for say: 25 mph 35 mph 45 mph. Thanks in advance fellow subies.
  2. We just picked up our new Forester but was surprised to see the cheap plastic "brush guard" basically just a thin plastic cover over the bumper. Does anyone know of an aftermarket company that makes a real metal brush guard for this thing. Afterall we live in the middle of deer country.
  3. Well we solved the problem with the transmission. We traded the Impreza in today for a new Forester.
  4. '04 Impreza TS Wagon. We just returned from our dealer to have them check out a similar noise, Whirring/rubbing sound that changes when accelerating/decelerating. They thought a pinion bearing. Would have to dissasemble entire transaxle to say for sure but probably ring and pinion and side gears and bearings too. Tried to blame it on my changing fluid @ 60K with Farm & Fleet Fluid. Bummer is we now have 87k mis. and no warranty. $1600 to have some kid who doesn't even shave yet screw it up some more with a 90 day warrany or $3400 for a reman unit with a 2 year 24k warranty. Is this a common enough problem that we might push SOA to give us a little help? Or should I just take my chances with a junk yard tranny. Any one else out there have any pinion problems or other thoughts on the matter?
  5. I looked all over the web, bought a $20 Chilton's manual. I still couldn't figure out those speaker wires. Then I found this Message board! My new stereo and speakers sound great! Thanks guys.
