I seem to be struggling with removing the brake pad from the back right side of my 92 Subaru Loyale. I have completly lost my Hanes manual so I cant refer to that. I have removed the tire, the four lug nuts, and the one large nut in the center of the wheel. I was told that if i gently tapped a hammer on the back side, it should slide out. Didnt work, even after WD-40. I was then suggested some kind of brake disc puller but the guys at my local auto shop said that there arent any that will fit a subaru. Is there a screw or bolt anywhere that I missed thats holding it in there still?

I'm kinda confused on what you guys all mean. The four lug nuts is what I tried to take off, I got one off but the other three just spin when I try to loosen the nut on the end. The brownish rusty colored bolt in the middle spins with the silverish nut on the outside. I think I am using the right words? Here is the tire after I removed the hubcap. You will notice one lug nut missing. This is the back of the tire, this is where the brake fluid is leaking from. Can I undo the brake line from back here as well as the one bolt visible in this pic and the large bolt in the middle of the pic above to just remove the whole thing from car or would it be more complicated then that?

Well, my brake fluid is leaking from the back right tire, so i decided to take the tire off then check out the brake pad. Well, the bolts had gotten rusty and I guess I am just too strong for my own good and two of the bolts broke so that when I spin the nut on the outside, the bolt inside spins with it. What exactly did I brake and is this possible to fix?

I managed to burn out the clutch on my 91 Subaru Loyale 4WD Wagon about a month ago and finally decided to get it fixed. All of the repair shops here in Missoula have told me that I will need to replace my flywheel, is this always the case with clutches? I have been quoted everything from 500 to 1000 bucks for this repair. Is this something I could do myself? I am only 16 but I have helped my older brother work on his cars a couple of times including replacing a transmission. I was hoping to fix this baby up and sell it so i dont want to spend too much money on it. Any tips or advice?

My 91 subaru Loyale busted up on me. I went offroading :-\ and got stuck facing uphill on a steep slope. I had to gun the engine pretty high before dropping the clutch to prevent slipping down the hill backwards. Smoke started pouring out of the underneath of the car about in the middle, it was a whiteish greyish smoke. I think it was my tranny but am not sure. I can drive the car forward at about five to ten miles an hour if i rev it to about 4k rpms before letting out the clutch it will move. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could of broken and how I could be able to fix this? Oh btw. Does anyone know any good Subaru repair shops in Missoula, MT? Thanks for your help!

I currently own a 1992 Subaru Loyale wagon and am thinking about purchasing a 1987 Subaru GL wagon. Would replacement parts match up between the cars? The bodys and inside look basically identical. Taking it for a test drive later today.

Well... Thank you all for your replys. I think I just got reccomended basically every kind of oil they make and almost the same amount of filters. My car seems to heat up quickly and drops my oil pressure very very dramatically if I driver for longer then 40 minute intravels. So I think one of the thicker oils would work a heck of a lot better for me. Like 10-40 for example? Would that make sense? Oh and its cool to see someone else from Missoula posting here.

Hey, I have a 1992 Subaru Loyale at 198k miles. How often should I change the oil and what kind of oil should I use. I live up in Montana and its starting to get pretty cold so do I need a different weight during the winter? My last oil change was 2500 miles ago with 5-30 weight. Thanks for the help.

Well. I am very glad to have found this forum. Not sure if this is the correct section to post in since my car is a '92 but oh well. I have recently been given a 1992 Subaru Loyale as my first car. Got my Drivers Liscense only a couple of months ago. I am extremely pleased with the ease of operation. No other manual that I have tried driving is as easy as mine. Two problems. Both my headlamps have holes in the casing and moisture within and I need a new fuel pump. Now, I dont have much money to spend and I am looking around for cheap places to purchase these parts. Most online areas I searched including eBay seemed rather steep. Thanks for any help.
