  1. Man I feel you there-- I have a 1993 impreza in south texas with all sorts of odd weather, rain one hour, 100 degree heat the next, and I SHREDDED the rotors due to the heat and driving style; but my impreza has 128000 miles on it (possible original rotors).

I have heard of certain european cars (new beetle) that have had the brakes give out as early as 3000 miles- and that's with clutch failure with the manual tranny. Those cars weren't made in europe though, but in mexico to cut labor costs, and to make more money. I sincerely hope that subaru is not doing that, because this 1993 subie is my first and I wish to keep with subaru for long time.

My opinion is to go to a "mom and pop" shop that is ASE certified and explain your predicament to them; I used to work for one and I have seen near every problem fixed that often the dealer indirectly causes. I am saying that the dealer IS AT FAULT and you should get a second or third opinion.

  2. I have an idea:

how possible is it to use EJ20, EJ22, and EJ25 parts on an EJ18 block??

like some input on this, it's bugging me

because if it works lots of decent power for cheap---I HOPE.....

Help me out with this people because I am going to school soon and (no offense) like to take my subie up there. The school is in Indianapolis, by the way..

    Parts I am asking about:

    the intake manifold

    the exhaust system

    ignition system

anything else i forgot it's late and I have to go work early tomorrow and this is BUGGING me to no end.

A friend of mine told me( he is a domestic USDM guy) that it is possible but he doesn't know much more, I got his wheels turning- so to speak- my idea is bugging him now.

    help some car guys out???

  3. I have a manual Impreza L (1993 though) with the EJ18 engine,

truthfully though, through the research I have done, all of the subaru engines should link up properly with your 1997 - I have a feeling that some legacy engines might not. but your question about manual / auto engines, that's the transmission - the engines link up to them all ; you haven't been told the EJ20 links up to most transmissions? Your 1997 impreza shouldn't be a problem...

by the way though - I wouldn't mind seeing the aftermath of your work.

  4. well as for the EJ18 many external components like intakes, exhausts, pullys will work. I had an EJ18 for a few yrs. It was faster than it was. I have one I'm selling. I wanted to rebuild it, but I got married!

As for websites, as from my past knowledge there is nothing dedicated to the EJ18. There are a few turbo kits for the ej18. Old 'jcsports' had one and it was suposedly a killer machine!

You just need to research a lot, cause some site will say they have exhaust headers for impreza's 95-01 per say, when in all actuality the 93 EJ18 will work with those. One think to consider it was prolly made for the ej22 or ej25 do the diameter is bigger than the ej18. Oh well it'll breathe better than the ej18! One rule of thumb on dealing w/ impreza's is watch out when buying some parts that include the EJ22, because for (i think) 95-96 the EJ22's had single port exhaust. SO you wouldn't want anything that would adapt to that .

    You could always ask man!

I'm am not a newbie killer or anything, I'm a down to Earth nice guy, so if you have a particular question PM me or e-mail me. Like I said I'm selling and extra EJ18, look at the ad on this site, becasue I have extra accesories for that motor on sale if you needed for your engine. I am full of knowledge, and was in your shoes once from '96 to '03(had a 93 Impreza L). I finally got a WRX! But I miss my EJ18 Impreza FWD. It actually handled better that my WRX. You can ask me if you care! PM or e-mail me.

    Thanks,

    MAX

thanks for the info-- This will help me out considerably.

  5. josh (1abaja) is gonna do the same thing, put an ej22 in his 93 1.8 impreza.

he called ccrinc and they said the physical structure of the motor is the same, only the bore is different, and all the ecu and wiring connectors work the same

i dont think he would have dropped over 200 bucks on gaskets and seals and another 250 for the motor if it wouldnt work.

go for it. i will be the one putting josh's togehter myself, so we're in the same boat

Great idea-- you answered my question number 1

  6. I have a 1993 impreza L ( it's front-wheel drive- yeah I know...)

I am wondering if the tranny and drivetrain from the AWD impreza would work in a transfer or would the 1993 outback sport work??

also is there good performance parts sites out there for my car -- Am I going to have to do an engine swap? I don't have the money for that!

btw I am in San Antonio

    show me the cameraderie

I am thinking about Rallitek.com, I looked over the catalogue-- very interesting indeed...
