  1. I found out that CO2 is getting into the cooling system, bad head-gaskets.. quotes from shops in town and the dealership are around 1.5K! One shop said that the heads could need replacing also, another 1.5+. I think that a new engine should be cheaper.. I am used car shopping as a result. I think I will donate the 91 Legacy for the tax break.. Thanks, Kirk
  2. Hello, My 91 legacy (175K) is starting to overheat.. At highway speeds it is fine, it is around town stop-and-go that causes the problem. The radiator and overfill is full of coolant, The fans comes on (I guess this means the thermo switch is ok) and the heater works (hotter air when at highway speeds). I had a slight leak several months ago that I used a "stop-leak" solution on it and it has been fine until now. Last summer the thermostat was changed. Question: Is there any way to know if I need to change the thermostat, radiator or waterpump..? Money is a little tight and I would like to take care of this myself if possible. If it is the radiator do you have any recommendations about a good place to get one? Cheers, Kirk
  3. OK, I reset the ECU and re-checked the error codes. The culprit appears to be the atmospheric pressure sensor circuit (#45). My chilton manual has information about a pressure switch but no pressure sensor. Any help will greatly be appreciated. Kirk
  4. Hello, I have a 91' Legacy 2.2L (169K miles) that the check engine light has been on for about 1 year. Half a year ago I checked the diagnostics (connected the cables under the steering wheel) and recieved about ten codes that didn't make much sense. Recently I took the car to the dealership and they said that they can't figure out why the light is on and suggested that we change the computer for ~$850!!! The wagon runs great but I need to get an emission test, In CA the light has to be off but functional (ie. comes on with first turn of the ignition) any suggestions? The previous owner said that one time the light was on and the dealership said that it was b/c she had overfilled the gas tank. They charged her ~$100 and turned it off. Thanks in advance, Kirk
  5. Changed the filter.. The advice was spot-on. You saved me 80$! Thanks-a-million Kirk
  6. 91 Legacy 2.2 MPFI I had a oil change at a quick-lube and was told that I needed to change my fuel filter. After getting a quote from them for 100$ I decided that I would do this myself. I noticed that in the mornings I had a strong gas smell especially if I turned on the vent. I figured that the mechanic did a poor job of reconnecting the filter. I bought a fram filter and was about to change the filter and tubing (they were cracked) but could not find a way to disconnect the fuel pump (chiltons says that it is on top of the gas tank). I also couldn't find the fuse (I can not find a fuse diagram for the main fuse box). So my questions are how can I turn off the fuel pump so that I can disconnect the old fuel filter and do you think that this is what is causing the gas smell? Thanks, Kirk
