  1. Thank all. Your suggestions gave me the idea to use an adhesive stair tread, or a bathtub tread, under the pad. I'll also check out those WRX pads. Namaste, ej
  2. The little rubber pad that goes over the clutch top ('96 Legacy Outback Wagon) slips something awful. I replaced it thinking that it was the older pad (that one had a small tear in the top left corner) but this one slips just as badly. I tried Gorilla Glue but it didn't do the trick (and made a sticky mess - too hot outdoors right now). Any suggestions to keep this pad in place, besides duct tape??? The top of the clutch mechanism is so slick, and the pad moves when I shift, then makes a weird ploppop when I release the clutch. It's not affecting the car, it's just damned annoying.
  3. Thanks for the tip and I wish it had worked for the manual. I get this message when I click the manual link: "We're sorry to say that an online version of your Owner's Manual is not available. Unfortunately, we do not have access to an electronic version of manuals prior to 1998 model year vehicles. Please refer to the Owner's Manual you received with your Subaru at the time of purchase to answer any questions you may have." If I had received the owner's manual, I'd never have clicked the link to begin with. :-\
  4. I have some minor discoloration of paint on the roof in a couple of spots, and I was wondering what y'all recommend as the best car wax, or best paint rejuvenator product. Also, for the granite trim around the bottom, is there a product to keep that perky, too? MAKE/MODEL 1996 Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon, AWD, MT, Spruce Pearl color Other little questions I have (I've no owner's manual and can't find one online - dealer said he'd provide one - we'll see...): Is there a cargo door release button inside near the driver's area? If lock/unlock is sluggish using the hand-held controller, does it need looking into? Once every 4 to 5 uses, it doesn't unlock the car, and I have to hit Lock, then Unlock again and it works. I'd like to upgrade from the Radio/Cassette to a Radio/CD - any suggestions for a good yet inexpensive model, or a chain establishment like Best Buy that will do a good job? What's the best way to perk up the look of the plastic cargo liner? Also, I've heard different opinions about using ArmorAll on dashboards and such: some say it harms the surface, some say it doesn't. Opinions?
  5. YES! lol You know, I traded my 1988 Honda (that I drove for 14 years) and I STILL had the manual. Why people don't keep them in their cars, I'll never know.
  6. It is above the driver's side window, but it appears stuck, and I didn't want to force-pull it. Could it be loosened somehow (WD40 or something) before I try again to pull it up?
  7. I didn't get a manual with my '96 Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon, and I'm wondering how to make the antenna go up? I've looked and looked for a button but haven't found one yet.
  8. P.S. Drive away dealer cost: $6,813. I noticed Kelly Blue Book suggested dealer retail was $8,740, so I thought it was a fair enough deal. I'm a freelance researcher/writer so I did lots of research on Subarus, and the model I bought --before purchase-- portended excellent ratings. I didn't see many complaints - actually, hardly any. I strove to be cautious in purchasing to find a reliable, used vehicle. Namaste, em
  9. LMAO. I couldn't begin to count the times I've been on the "u" side, or the "me" side, depending on one's perspective. . . .Hell, those instances might actually surpass a current Guiness Book world record.
  10. I'm not a do it yourself kind of gal. I figure the best tact is to let the dealership do all the oil changes/maintenance. Namaste, em
  11. Thanks for the tips. Also, since "ej" are my first two initials of three, my curiousity is piqued: an EJ22 engine? 22 was a good year to me. . . . If feasible, please provide this laywoman with an explanation of why the EJ22 engine merits accolades. Namaste, em
  12. 2.2l The dealer said "timing belt change at 90,000 miles." Earlier is better?
  13. I purchased my first Subaru yesterday: a 1996 Legacy Outback Wagon, 5-speed manual transmission, one owner, and only 54,000 miles on the odometer. All advice welcomed regarding potential problems with this model/year (also welcomed are wildly wonderful, low maintenance success stories). I drove my former 1988 Honda Accord LXi for 14 years, and traded her in for a respectable price with her odometer reading almost 192,000 miles. As with my prior vehicle, I want to take the best care with my "new used" Subaru, so all info is extremely appreciated. Namaste, em
