Hello,
I am impressed with your creativity and productivity. I have a series of questions and I hope I am not violating etiquette in asking so many in one post. First question is: what needs to be done to remove the AWD section of the tranmission? I am interested in using a late model Subaru engine in a 914 or x 1/9 in a Rwd only setup. Can you tell me the distance from the front motor mount to the half shaft centers where they emerge from the trans, and the distance from there to the end of the trans (at the rear). More important than the dimensions (at this point) is what do you need to do to shift the subaru trans in it's new location. On a more removed note You decided to use a subaru trans, which I would think would be reliable, less expensive, and already mated to the engine. How are you going to mate that to your rear suspension? I have noticed that in the subaru 914 conversions usually the 914 trans mission is used with all of its drawbacks. I am trying to figure out if using the subaru trans is going to be much more difficult. Thank you for reading this. I look forward to any light you may be able to shed on my questions.
that using the suba the length of the tranny that projects beyond the axle output shafts. The 2WD tranny or the AWD tranny shortened by removing the AWD section barely fits, the AWD tranny would actually project beyond the rearbodywork. If one were to go with this Tcase setup it would be hanging out behind the car.
