  1. Hi Everyone, We have a 1991 Legacy 4wd Wagon and have noticed a pretty bad vinration in 1st gear from a standstill. Definately feels like something is way out of balance, almost like a driveshaft or something. Once the the vehicle gets up to speed the vibration is not noticeable. Ideas?
  2. Yes, Click , click .....click click. The bucking seems to match the clicks
  3. The fan on my 92 Legacy will intermittently cycle on and off very fast when the AC is enganged, it sounds like a bad relay or solenoid switiching on and off very fast, it will sometimes cause the car to buck a little. Any ideas?
  4. Thanks a bunch....they sure look integrated must be the special ferrous coating my car came with : )
  5. Sorry for not being clear. I am talking about replacing the rear section with the muffler. It bolts to the intermediate section with the 2nd cat or resonator. The problem is that the studs appear to be part of the intermediate flange and I doubt they will survive the extraction of the rear section.
  6. Hi Gang, I put the car up on the hoist today, (tire shop beneath my office) and finally it is time to put a new muffler on the 91 legacy awd wagon. I ordere dthe piece from worldpac $140 canadian. But when we were looking at the piece it seems that the studs and nuts which hold the cat section to the muffler section are totally corroded and rusted. I sprayed them with some PB blaster but they hardly resemble nuts any more. I was going to have the tire shop perform the work because they have been great to me (give me world pac at cost + 10%) etc. My question, should I just take it to an exhaust shop? The bolts from the cat pipe to the muffler appear to be presses or welded on making replacement of broken bolts which appear to be likey a very possible reality. TIA
  7. Anything I can do to free up the lifter? Change oil weight? Flush crancase?
  8. Ok Now that I have your attention let me tell you about my car. My Subaru is my winter beater and parts hauler. I don't give it much love, basically just change the oil and it never complains. A few weeks ago I started up the car and I heard an audible ticking sound almost like rod knock but not really. Either way it scared the crap out of me. I immeadiatly turned off the car checked the oil and confirmed it was full and started the car again. Noise gone. This am same exact situation. Any ideas?
  9. I had a new clutch installed about 2 years ago. Now the engagement seems to be very high say the last 1 " of travel. There is no slipping, shuddering or noises. Can this be adjusted or is my relatively new clutch (15000miles)going south? BTW it has the hill holder and it is functioning fine.
  10. Just wondering what the consumption figures should be for the car. Searched the forum and net search came up empty. Here are my figures are these low? 26.9 miles per gallon or 9.5 liters per 100KM
  11. So it got really cold here (-40) today. On the way to work I could smell gas coming in through the vents. Pulled car over and the lines from filter to injection rail are weaping fuel. Perhaps there was some water in the fuel and it froze causing lines to crack? Anyone encounter this before? Funny thing is that the filter split on a similarly cold day 3 years ago. So today at lunch in -40 degree weather I will drive to Napa and try and repair with new fuel line. Brrrr.
  12. So I had some stumbling at idle a few months back and cleanded the IAC valve with great success and then the car ran like a champ BUT it is now getting bad again after 3 months. Why is this happening? Is it blow by causing this? Car has 190K KMs on it and seems to run great still with lots of power.
  13. I read the above post with great concern regarding ruining the valve. I after looking at the valve I have a hard time wondering how it could be ruined by using carb cleaner. I took the electric portion off - DONT MAKE THE MISTAKE I DID - there are springs inside which went flying - so be cautious. I then cleaned the electric solenoid by hand with a rag. Then I attacked the valve body. I used some brake cleaner because that is all I had on hand with a small brush. I then filled it with clean and taped the holes shut and left it for 1 hour. removed tape drained et voila Car has never run this smooth in 5 years of ownership between myself and my sister. I may price out a new valve for kicks has anyone already done this?
  14. Pulled and cleaned the IAC last night and resent the ECU - WOW! car feels brand new again. No stumble idle is ROCK solid and predictable. Thanks for all the advice on this board!
  15. Found that a vacuum hose had disconected. Reconnected and now the car is better in some ways and worse in others. The check engine light no longer comes on for example Could it be that the ecu "integrated" the faults into the system. I will unplug the negative cable and leave it for a few hours to see how things are. Suggestions?
  16. Can someone post a picture or location of the IAC valve on a 92 legacy 2.2. TIA
  17. OK dumb question. Is there a haynes manual for the legacy's? or can someone direct me?
  18. It sounds like it could be the race. I had a piece of my race surface (the inner part of the bearing assembly) chip off. Needed a new bearing and race.
  19. My legacy wagon 2.2 litre is stumbling a bit. When I first take off in the cold mornings and arrive at the first corner I press the clutch and the car will stall. it takes about 3 or 4 minutes before the car will not stall upon arriving at a corner. Even once warm the revs drop almost to zero before 'bouncing" and returning to normal ~900rom. Ideas? Idle control valve?
