would the front clip work ? dont know what you mean by front clip

Engine ? bolt in (just some rewiring to make it work with the older stuff)

Shocks ? bolt in

rotors ? bolt in (assuming they are they same size)

struts ? bolt in

Seats ? bolt in

in the old days. i got this front my father

Front Clip Meaning:

Hood,Fenders Headlights Everything in front.

Rewiring ? major ?

Rotors i think they would be the same. it runs the same 14" Rims

i dont know Gen 2 Legacy.

what else would work ?

Windshield ?

Doors ?

Steering Wheel ?

Transmission ?

well the body style is different between gen 1 and 2 so it would look really odd. but i'm not sure if it would even bolt up.

rotors should be the same, not unless the gen 2 was an outback, then they had bigger front brakes.

windshield, probably not, like a said they changed body style

doors, same thing

steering wheel, would swap, not sure of the plugs would be the same, and you dont want to start mixing and matching air bag parts, that spells disaster

transmission, manuals swaps, autos im pretty sure the later ones were more computer controlled then the earlier ones.

you are right about the rear drums, i was thinking front stuff only. if the 2nd gen has rear discs, they should be the same at the gen one

now there were different pad options for different years, it was due to caliper and bracket changes dictating pad shape, but the rotors were all the same.

Front

260x24mm

90-99 Legacy non-turbo/-GT/-Outback

93-01 Impreza AWD (non RS)

Rear

266x10mm

90-99 Legacies/Outbacks with rear discs non-turbo

93-07 Imprezas with rear discs (except sti, 06-07 wrx)

Foresters with rear discs

Bajas

legacy gen 1 and 2 does not matter if it si sedan or wagon

everything will bolt on any car

they are the same only the outside look si different

no rewiring for the engine change as long is the same engine(EJ22=EJ22)

but if j

you change te engine(EJ18=EJ22)or any oder engin swap you will hawe ti put in the wiring from the car you took engine(so dash and all wires in engine space must bi different)binn done 10 times it is eazy

the transmition?

all the transmitions are pretimuch the same only the geer ratio is different

some EJ18 legacyc had push button 4x4(hi and lo range) this transmition is a bit smaller becaus is the same like in leone

there is the differance in the drive shaft from transmition to the rirdiff becaus legacy 2gen has a bit longer wheelbase then the 1gen

in europe all the transmisions with 4x4 have hi and lo range except the cars with turbine(legacy gen 1 turbo, impreza gt,wrx, wrx sti)

we buy 2wd legacys with EJ18 engins and then we turn them to EJ22 awd

in the most cases we take parts off legacy 2 gen(not so old and damaged engines and better car handling(sway bar is batter made))

all the trany fits in any lagacyc as long is 1 or 2 gen

there is onli the differenc in the drive shaft from transmition to rirdiff

it is a bit longer in gen2 legacyc but it is not a problem if you have bouth drive shafts

9img14801.jpg

this one used to be EJ18 2wd

and we turned it to EJ22 awd

the motor, transmition and rir diff came out from 2.gen legacy wagon

the rir suspension(rir bridge) was taken off 1.gen legacy wagon

this is what we call rir bridge

9img14671.jpg

and the drive shaft

donnor car for rir "bridge" and drive shaft

ja i know that I didnt putt up any pictures from 2.gen legacy

this guy has a scrapp yard at home

but onli legacyc and leone he cutt the car in pices befor we did the swap

so he had only parts uround the house

9img14841.jpg

9img14871.jpg

9img14781.jpg

those parts in the pictures are from lagacy 2.gen

it is better to use 2.gen gas tank becaus you dont need the small box in your right rir fender DONT KNOW HAW TO CALL IT IN ENGLISH

Gen 1/2 transmissions are mostly compatible. You have to change the switches so the wireing matches the car it's going into, and the Gen 2's have a different transfer case section that has mounting points for the exhaust hanger. I just put a '93 transmission into a '96 and had to fab a new exhaust hanger for the #2 cat section. Also the linkage is different - you have to use the linkage adaptor (the peice that's roll-pinned to the shift rod) from the car the linkage came from. These are manual transmissions I'm talking about.

Also the driveline and rear diff are different. The driveline's rear flange is larger with a different bolt pattern than the Gen 1. Obviously the diff matches so the flange on the diff is different as well. The rear cover on the diff has longer studs as well. In order to swap diffs (early trans is 4.11) I had to transfer the input flange, rear cover, and change the spider gears in the carrier to the clip-in style for the '96 axles.

HOLY RUST Batman!

Yep - those are disc's under all that red stuff. Weird - the '96 L sedan I just worked on had drums - it's a 5 speed though so maybe an option that came on auto's.....

as much as i whine about the rain around here sometimes, i will live with it to not have to use a full can of PB blaster just to do something like brakes.

lets just pray they never think salt is a good idea out here.
