High Oil Pressure

Featured Replies

My oil pressure gauge red lines under acceleration and for a bit when the engine is first started. Is this normal? I understand it should be 57psi @ 2500 RPMs, which I believe is about where it is after warm up and on a flat road.

Im guessing your running the stock gauge. If so, then, its pretty common. If your worried about it put a mech gauge on it, but alot of them read high when cold.

I have this issue but the gauge stays up against redline, hot or cold. I swapped the PCV valve but it had no effect.

To be honest, I never expected to have a high oil pressure issue. I have owned brats for over 20 years and have never run into this. Is this bad for the engine? Any ideas for a fix?

btw: I sure admire you guys. I have worked, swapped about everything that can go wrong over the years and you guys put me to shame. Thanks for sharing your vast experience. I love these old cars and more than once you have help me keep them on the road.

It sounds like a bad sender, the wire from the sender is grounded, or the gauge is done.

Advice for both of you: check it with a mech. gauge.
