program new keyless entry/car starter remote OEM outback sport 2002

Featured Replies

Hey,

i'm new to the forum. Both my remotes for my OEM keyless entry/car starter are busted and i bought a new one but am confused on how to program it. its for a 2002 outback sport (impreza) - 3 button remote (activate, deactivate, start engine).

thanks.

I have a 98 LOB. Bought a remote on ebay for under $30 including shipping. I think it was called ikeyless, but I'm sure any other one would work just as well. I would be surprised if there is more than one factory in China that makes them. Programming was really easy. There is a button hanging off a wire just below the steering wheel. Had to press it for 15 seconds till the car beeped, held it there, and pressed "lock" on the remote. I was told dealer charges $80 to do that.

thanks Kwhistle...i'll give that a try later this morning.

I tried a few of the procedures found on cars101 but it wasn't working. The dealer wants to charge me $50 for programming. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out.

his won't like your 98 OBW. go through and follow the procedures on cars101.com again. took me like 5 times...or more to get it right on my OBW. really annoying but finally it worked. they're kind of quirky like that.

the problem with cars101 is that none of the pictures displayed match the look (or number of buttons) on my remote. i have a brown and black remote (trying to look like that wood panelling) with 3 buttons (arm - closed lock, disarm - open lock, and start - star).

keep in mind that i'm in Canada, so maybe the Canadian subaru starter was different (I'm assuming you are not in Canada).

what do you think?

thanks

That might be it. You can update your location to avoid similar confusion in the future. At least put Canada or something so folks know.

Are you sure it's a Subaru remote then? Maybe it's not even a Subaru remote, i've never seen a woodgrain subaru remote.

the places you buy remotes from often have the programming instructions, did you check with them?
