Engine Swap - From 1.6TS to Legacy 2.5 (non turbo)

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have changed the engine of my Subaru 1.6TS to a legacy 2.5 (NA). I have retained the old auto gearbox. Also added the ECU and throtle body along with a bigger exhaust.

The power is really good and the pickup has increased considerably.

I need to know the following:

Can I put in a 6-speed manual gear box (STI) to this engine?

Which Turbo should I go in for?

How can I increase the top-end of the vehicle?

Yep, you can do whatever you want. All it takes is resources. Tank tracks on your subaru - go for it. Jet engine on your car - tear it up. Run on propane, sure.

Yes the STi trans should bolt right up. Beyond that, good luck!

I would think the STi should have the gearing for top end.

Are you keeping the EJ25? Why not swap to a turbo motor?

NASIOC has gobs of turbo threads, are you familiar with that? Same EJ engines and all.

With your questions it sounds like you're really going to need turbo pistons (might as well get a turbo block?) and engine management.

Thanks, I will need to change the ECM once I put in the Turbo.

However the key is the gearbox, which will increase the BHP of the engine considerably. Current Auto seems to give way sometimes.

I agree that its a good idea to change to turbo pistons.

Utlimately the plan is to take it on a off road rally in Malaysia.
