January 13, 201016 yr I have replace my Trans/Diff (5Spd). Can this be done from below? In another words, can it be done without removing the engine. Or is just simpler to remove the engine first? Thanks, DanK
January 13, 201016 yr It is much easier to replace from underneath than to have to pull the engine. That is twice the work. You will just have to get the car up high enough to get the tranny out from underneath it, but four jack stands should work just fine.
January 13, 201016 yr Yes it can. I posted a thread on how to do it in this section of the web sight.
January 13, 201016 yr if you undo the shifter linkages from inside of the car, undo the pivot bolt, you can drop the shifter with the trans instead of removing the whole assembly. there is a 12mm nut that holds the assembly to the tunnel behind the shifter. remove the pitch bar on the back of the engine so the whole works will pitch down. once you drop the mount, you wull have the wiggle room to remove the axles. the motor is not much more work to take out. If you removed the engine first, you can pull out or install the trans from up top with crane, or just pick it up out of the car. if you took the motor out you can go through all the seals
