1997 impreza outback 5 speed.I think switch might be the prob but maybe not.have to push hard on the pedal so engine will start. possible adjustment? if so ho do i adjust? thx ,KJW

Switch is probably broken. Id remove it and plug the wires together, but that's me.

 

A new switch might be anywhere from $15 - $30 at a dealer. Or you can get one at a junkyard pretty easy. Probably only a dollar or two there.

 

Adjustment. I think there's a nut that you can spin to adjust the depth of the switch where it meets the pedal. Should be able to see it by looking under the dash up at the top of the pedal bracket. A lot of times they're plastic and will strip or crack and won't hold the switch properly.

They can be adjusted. There is a 14mm nut on each side of the mount. Back off the nut on the switch side, unplug the switch and then turn it in holding the nut on the backside of the mount plate. Tighten up the nut on the switch side and plug the connector back in.

 

Before you do any of this, get a mirror and flash light and look at the clutch pedal where it contacts the switch. There is a small plastic stopper there, if its broken off, the switch plunger will go right through the pedal hole.
