2004 STI block

Featured Replies

Hi This is Jerry, i have a chance to get a 2004 STI block but my question is the block the same height or taller than the early 90's 2.2 block? Also will the heads from a early 90's 2.2 bolt on to that STI block? Please somebody let me know before i buy a boat anchor. Thanks Jerry

Jerry, if you want to build a franken-motor use a 1999-2004 2.5 N/A block. STi block will have lower compression and there will be large differences between the combustion chamber and quench area.

Hi Ken This is Jerry, i am going to use a blower on this engine. All i need to know if it will fit in an AE81 engine bay without cutting the frame. And to make sure the early 2.2 heads will fit on this 2004 sti block. I have a set of new pistons to bump up the compression. Thanks Jerry

The pistons will have to have offset combustion areas or you will have to rework the combustion chamber of the EJ22. The heads should bolt up. I believe there may be an issue with a water jacket though. Try searching on RS25, I saw some threads there about it. If you are getting new pistons I still think the best route is with the earlier N/A motor. Adjust your compression and run with it. Besides, the EJ22 heads will fit for sure.
