The black rubber seal or gasket around my back passenger side door has come loose. Can this be reattached or do I need to buy a new one, and what is this called anyway?

depends on why it came loose, sometimes it just comes off the clips and can be persuaded back on, if the rubber is torn off the clips it would probably have to be replaced

 

Yeah, it's fairly easy to fix even if a plastic clip is broken. I repaired some on my 98 Legacy not too long ago with a tube of auto weatherstripping glue I bought at Pep Boys.

 

Just apply a little to the rubber and a little to the frame. Push the rubber back into place then peel it back and let the air hit the adhesive for a few seconds. Push the rubber back into place and you should have a nice tight seal. You can use a little masking tape to hold it in place it's a large section.

 

BTW, use the door on the other side of the car as a reference so you can be sure you're putting the weatherstripping in the right place (if that makes sense).
