March 6, 201016 yr For the past month or so, my Forester has sounded like an off road truck with big knobby tires ( making a humming sound) rolling down the highway. I just had my snow tires taken off today and was hoping that was the problem but it wasn't. When I get it up to 40+ mph I can hear a interior rattle coming from the back of the car. I don't feel any vibrations in the steering wheel. Do any of you have any thoughts of what could be the cause of this humming sound. Thanks, Bill
March 7, 201016 yr If it's a deep, loud humm. I'd say a wheel bearing most likely. +1 on wheel bearing trouble!
March 7, 201016 yr Replace it with a wheel bearing out of a legacy. The foresters used a ball-bearing rear wheel bearing while the legacys used a tapered roller. The tapered roller holds up much better. Read this: http://www.endwrench.com/current/Current6/03/WhBearRep.pdf Edited March 7, 201016 yr by WoodsWagon
