Hey everyone,

I'm new to the board. I currently have a '84 & '86 BRAT, and am in the process of lifting my '86, with an SJR 4" lift. I'm going to built some 4" rear shocks extension brackets. Does any one have any helpfull information or suggestions to make this project go smoothly?? I do know I have to extend the steering shaft, but not sure if I need to add a 4" piece to the shaft?? Also, are there any other things I'll need to lengthen? I heard possible radiator hoses? Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated!...Bob

Welcome aboard, BadBob. You've found a great place here for help with your cars. Try posting your questions in the Old Gen forum--you'll probably get a lot of input there.

Usually the top radiator hose needs to be lengthened, and the bottom hose you can use existing, but need to cut a little off it to make it shorter.

Also, if you have a car with a O2 sensor, that wire needs to have slack enough, same for speedo cable, and the transmission ground to firewall, and some slack in the clutch cable routing.

Are you weber'd yet, maybe gas line lengthen if so.

Don't forget your exhaust will now be hanging really low so you need to reroute that soon so it is tucked back up.

Rear brake lines can be bent, but it is advised to put some 6" extensions on the front brake lines, in fact you have to put front extension on the brake line where it is near the strut/shock.
