February 13, 200422 yr Hi everyone, I own a 03 OB wagon 2.5 and bought it new. I haven't had any issues with it so far. Does anyone know what type of spark plugs are in these engines? I'm also looking to replace the air filter with the K&N filter. Any advice there? I recently heard a soft thumping sound coming from the rear left brake whenever I put pressure on the brake pedal. I'm trying to decide if it'll be worthwhile to take it to the dealer as I assume it will still be under warranty or to turn the rotor. Does anyone know of any major issues with the 03 OB wagon 2.5? danz75
February 13, 200422 yr ISSUES not heard of any major issues... and i know that subaru uses NGK plugs - but that my 2001 came with champions?!?! OBK should have NGK's in it i would think... K&N FILTER K&N filter = great investment. I have one on my 2001 RS K&N for your Legacy here Be sure to pick up a cleaning/oiling kit at some point. K&N = money saver and it ads power! you cant beat that BRAKE THUD? does this thumping occur only when you apply pressure to the brake pedal? is it a continuous thumping? may be worth a warranty visit/complain to the dealership if it persists...... hope this helps Jamie
February 13, 200422 yr Author Thanks for the info. The sound that the brakes make is a slight thumping sound whenever the brake pedal is depressed. It feels like the rotor may be slightly warped I think. You mentioned NGK stock plugs. Are they the platinum ones? Will it hurt to put in Iridium ones? danz75

The good news is they're cheap, that bad news is they last ~30k mi. Avoid the Champion plugs.
February 14, 200422 yr Author Thanks for all the advice! Anyone know of a good place that carries NGK plugs? I tried autozone here but they don't carry ngks
February 14, 200422 yr I think advance auto carries NGK. IMHO for a daily driver the OEM paper filter offers the best mix of flow and filtration.

I tried autozone here but they don't carry ngks 'round here (capital region of NY, USA), Advance Auto carries NGK plugs. BTW, stick with the OEM air filter. It's actually oiled paper (or some other kind of non-woven textile).
