I tried searching but couldn't find quite exactly what I'm looking for but I'm going to look at a flywheel, driveline, and 5 spd d/r out of an 86 gl tomorrow to hopefully swap into my 84 wagon and was wondering if there was anything I can do to check the tranny out before wasting my time. The motor is out of the car at the moment so other than making sure it spins, anything else I can do?

drain the fluid and check for any chunks, grit or silver shiny stuff. might want to take a pan if you think the guy doesn't want gear oil all over the ground.
