heres the scoop:

 

im bought an 83 gl

its got a rebuilt motor with 30,000 miles on it, and 176,000 on the chassis.

4 spd tranny, 4X4 (of course)

third gear in the tranny went out and i want to get if fixed as soon as i can.

i need some help to find out where i can buy a used one, a rebuild kit, or find someone with one.

 

any help guys?

Its usually the general consensus that its not worth the time to rebuild these

transmissions.

Most people do a 5spd swap, taking a transmission from an EA82 subaru and

putting it into an EA81 vehicle, aka your car.

 

Just search tranny swap, or transmission swap.

There are a ton of write-ups on it, as well as one in the USRM.

thanks twitch, ive heard a lot about the 5 spd swap, but isnt there quite a few mods you have to do to make it fit?
